How accurate is FNA?

I am a 33 yo of an 8 month old baby, currently breastfeeding. Around two months ago I noticed a hardened elongated area on the side of my left breast.

I went for an ultrasound and they didn’t see anything suspicious, but because it didn’t clear, my GP sent me to the Breast Cancer Clinic.

So now, two months later I went and they did ultrasound, mammogram and took two samples of tissue by fine needle aspiration. It came back negative and they told me to come back in 3 months for a follow up ultrasound.

They said there is not a nodule per se but the tissue in that area is less dense than the rest of the breast so they had to take a better look at the cells.

Before leaving, the doctor asked me again if I was sure the nodule hasn’t changed in these past couple of months. I said no but now I doubt myself, what ifit had changed and I did not notice? How would this change the path of monitoring?

Also, now two days after my FNA I have a bruise and when I press on that area I feel the nodule larger (before I needed to dig deep to feel it, now it is very obvious to touch - I am scared maybe it was changed and I didn’t pay attention).

How accurate are the investigations I did? Should I repeat or ask for an MRI?

Horrible to have that slight uncertainty over the results but good they are following things up again in 3 months to re-assure you  . You will have a lump and bruise following your biopsy that’s to be expected so please don’t get too worried about that . Best wishes Jill x
