How can I get my hair to grow quicker?

Does anyone have any miracle hair growth tips? I’ve 1 more taxotere to do, I have some dandelion fluff coming back, about 1cm. Dying for it to grow quicker!

Any suggestions welcome

I’ve been recommended morning and evening oils, which have been specially made up by an aromatherapist locally - but you can’t use them during chemo or radiotherapy!!! Have to say, if I had a cm I’d be thrilled! I’m still shiny!!! (and had last Tax yesterday!)

El K, I think we’re just going to have to be patient. The poor old hair follicles have had a real battering with chemo and they take a while to recover from the shock (which is why a lot of people’s hair comes back curly and sometimes white too, though colour usually returns from what I’ve heard.)

I don’t think there’s any point in sticking stuff on your scalp other than to moisturise your skin as it’s the follicles under the skin that do the growing and anything that’s poking out from the scalp is already dead stuff.

I’m a month after 6 x FEC, stopped shaving my scalp just before FEC5 and now have a bit of patchy fur about 1cm long but it doesn’t look like a proper haircut yet. And it still comes out if I pull it (and being an inveterate fiddler I just can’t help myself!) so I’m just trying to grin and bear it and keep my hands busy so I don’t make it any more patchy than it is.

I think we just have to be patient patients!

I used Alpecin shampoo (from Boots) it has caffeine in to stimulate the hair follicles and definitely stopped more of my hair coming out as well as promoting new growth. I checked with Macmillan whether it was OK to use but I was 4 weeks past final FEC. So, my advice, check with Macmillan whether you can use it while still on TAX.

Hi El Katrano

I think you (and the rest of us) need a special Hair Fairy with a magic wand.

There have been several discussions on the forum re hair growth but as CM says I think we just have to be patient.

Some of the suggestions have been Alpecin shampoo from Boots, Lush shampoo bar which smells of cinnamon- I can’t remember what it is called but the Lush staff will know.

My sister-in-law who is a naturopath recommended -
“A very ‘classic’ recipe for hair oil is a Tbsp of Jojoba Oil mixed with approximately 10drops of Rosemary and 7 drops of Lavender Oil. You can mix it in a bottle in larger quantity and then use it on your scalp and through your hair. I would always put some in my palm and then rub my hairbrush through the oil and then brush my hair. So you get the idea… The jojoba helps to normalise sebum production, the rosemary helps to stimulate the follicles to hair growth.”

I just put it directly onto my scalp and not with the hairbrush. The aromatherapy you get as a side effect is lovely! But really patience is the main ingredient. Sorry.
May your hair growth be rapid and luxuriant!!

The 1cm growth I have is very very patchy and its all sticking up on end like I’ve had an electric shock  Mostly White too so looks like I haven’t got any.

I suspected theres nothing that’ll be a miracle hair regrowth. I’ve heard caffiene good for follicles, suspect my BCN will say it’s harmless to try but won’t say whether it’ll help or not unless it’s a proven thing.

I want my hair back RIGHT NOW, I’m bored of being bald now. Sulk.

Hi all,
I don’t know if it helped me or not, but after my last tax I started to take “Hair Skin & Nail” tablets from asda, made me feel like I was doing something to help my hair come back. Last Tax was mid november and now have a full head of thick curly hair (had it coloured twice and cut once), my friend who had her last tax a week before me still has very thin short hair BUT she is still on herceptin and taking arimidex where as I am on tamoxifen.

Not obsessing about my hair regrowth at all but am using ‘New’ shampoo soap bar from Lush, alpecin hair tonic and ‘perfectil’ supplements for hair, skin or nails. Are they helping? I don’t know but I like to think that I am doing what I can to encourage the regrowth. Head massages are supposed to help too, something to do with improving blood flow I think.

A *whole* centimetre? You’re lucky ;o)

I am the proud owner of 2mm, all white and like a new-born chick.

Just finished chemo (a week ago) and mine’s still falling out! (never did the whole shaving thing - kept a short crop just to soften the edges!)

Hi all
I had last chemo on 5th May and my hair is coming back quite well, I have used Lush new shampoo bar since just before last chemo- at first I was using it everyday but felt it was making my scalp very dry so now use it two or three times a week. I also massaged almond oil from holland and barret once a week but every night I sit and massage my head with just my fingers- that maybe because I’m so glad it’s coming back !! LOL same as my nails they started to discolour about 3 weeks after my last tax and then one by one started to come off half way down the nail- I have monitored them and it has taken just three/four weeks for them to reach the top of the finger again but as someone has already said be patient it does happen but just not as quick as we all want it to

I’m now 3 weeks post last tax and have been using Lush Renew cinnamon solid shampoo for a couple of months. I now have about 1 cm hair growth which looks quite dark (I used to have hair which was blonde on top with darker layers beneath).
My OH has just bought me some Alpecin shampoo and liquid (from Boots). I’m going to start using that and I’ll let you know how I get on with it. Just wish I could use it on eyelashes and brows…

So far I’ve kept my eye brows and lashes, one chemo left and it better not decide to lose them on the last one or I’ll be mighty miffed.

Thanks for the tips, especially the LUSH shampoo bars as they are lovely, didn’t know they did one for hairloss.
Alpecin sounds like it might be a good idea, it’s pricey though.
Fed up of being skint too, basically at the moment I’m fed up

I bought some milk protein & Olive oil hair strengthening cream from a shop that sold products mainly for afro caribean hair. I’m not afro caribean but I rubbed the stuff on my head every day and I had 3 inches of thick curly hair in 6 months after chemo.
Unfortunately I’ve just had another course of chemo so I’m back in the baldy camp again. Having last of 4 TAX on Tuesday and have a fine covering of very white hair this time. Still using the cream so I hope it works this time too.

EL Katrano, the Alpecin is about £5 a bottle BUT Boots often have it on 3 for 2, and at least when you buy it you get Advantage card points (3 bottles gets enough points for a Mars bar).

Good luck with final TAX. The light at the end of the tunnel may seem a long way off but I promise it’s getting closer
