For those of you that have done lots of research, forgive me if I am teaching you to suck eggs. I found this explanation of cancer facintating, if you are not familiar with cells and DNA it might be a bit heavy going, but the steps the cancer has to go through to delvelop and spread are facinating.
That was utterly fascinating and has massively improved my understanding.
I had no idea it could lay dormant waiting to be activated by a series of events. This really explains the lifestyle element.
Perhaps if people understood this so simply then they’d actually pay attention.
MAkes me more determined to get my weight under control once I finish treatment. I’m “Obese” which is a risk factor and I like my drink as well, so will have to be more sensible on that and actually reading that has made a difference.
Thanks OAL, if you find any more articles then please post them, we chose if we want to read or not!
yes the way i read it is that it is a series of mistakes, which makes sense of the idea that there is not just one trigger or cause, but its lots of things that add up.
My son had told me that cancer cells develop in our bodies quite often but that our scavneger cells kill it before it can go to far. He said some of the dormant tumors die of old age before they get the trigger to make them mutate to the next stage.
he never explained why (admitedly i did not ask) but reading this makes sense of it.
Thanks O and L the first bit proved very interesting reading. I will admit to have steered clearing of reading about how it travels round the body as I have no vascular or node invasion, but I might read something else about it getting around and I will be scared lol
Thanks for posting it though, very interesting stuff.
SBL I felt the same but still read it … the way to look at it is we ALL have these cels in us even those who dont develop cancer but I found it interesting that reading between the lines makes alot of sence of the studies ive read here & other places to how certain ‘foods’ & lifestyle measures help with the cells & neighbours that stopo these rogue cells developing… So well worth reading not scarey at all
Oh if its not scary, I will give it a read later. I am just feeling beter about things today, and was reluctant to do or read anything that might make me feel scared again.
there’s a good book ‘Dr Susan Loves Breast Book’ talks about development of breasts and breast tissue throughout life, biochemistry, understanding risk and risk factors, bc itself, treatments side effects, recurrence, secondaries an life afterwards. I bought a half price copy in US years ago and updated as new editions have come out. If you want to understand it all, its a good (big) read, well written too. I’ve been dipping in and out of it for 12 years. Great for when you get scared by symptoms over time - reassuring but realistic. Check out the website - ‘Dr Susan Love’. shame about her name! she’s a breast surgeon at UCLA.
make sure its the most up to date version. I thought i would save money by getting a second hand one from amazon until i spotted the publication dates. The latest one is sept 2010.
