How long after stopping

Hi all Im sure this has been asked but I cant find the right post.

If you stopped taking Exemestane early, did your symptoms subside? I have only had 5 months of hormone therapy but the symptoms have been awful so Im on my second break. 5 weeks off now but no let up in the symptoms.

I had an appointment with the oncologist yesterday and it was agreed to have another 4 weeks off and then go onto Tamoxifen even though im post menopausal or stop altogether. I have 1.5% benefit from taking the blockers and I really feel its not much higher risk if I stop. I cant live my life with these awful symptoms, its just so crippling. Im probably going to stop but im wondering what other folks symptoms are like if you were put on Tamoxifen already post menopausal? Xx

Hello, just wondering if you have considered that some or all of the symptoms might be there without the meds. I was on HRT for 10 years. Obvs that was stopped when I got BC, all the menopause symptoms came back. I was put on Letrozole which I hated and I am now on Exemestane which I find much better. But there was a long gap between stopping HRT and starting AI meds so I know that many of the symptoms are just menopause and not AI side effects. They are perhaps worse on the meds but they were certainly there without them.

Thankyou soo much for your reply. Yes Ive definitely considered and am sure 50% are long standing. I have rheumatoid arthritis and degenerative disc disease with forminal stenosis in neck and lumbar. Pain was bad before the Anastrozole & Exemestane. Its just doubled now so making things so much worse. Ive never had menopause symptoms even though I had surgical menopause in my late 40’s so I suspect my body compensated and made lots of oestrogen! I think bc/hormone therapy and menopause are a bit of a minefield. If I had a sedate lifestyle I may cope with extra symptoms but I keep a horse, training hearing dogs and look after grandchildren so its not an option to take it easy really(and I wouldn’t want to). As long as I keep going Im fine but I grind to a halt if I stop or give in to it. Goodness knows whats best to do long term. Xx
