How long after the op should I have radio?

Hi everyone,

I’m getting mixed messages from my hospital and I wondered if anyone could help me?

I had a lumpectomy on 16th June for a small grade 2 tumour. I don’t need chemotherapy but I will need radio. The oncologist said I need radio within 6-8 weeks of the operation or the chance of reoccurrence starts to rise quickly. However the radio team said that it doesn’t matter. I’m not booked in until mid Sept, which is over 8 weeks. Should I be worried?

My hosp said it had to be within 4 wks of my op, but it does seem that everywhere is different.

Hello Atomicm,
I like yourself had a grade 2 IDC and DCIS, I have been told that I will not need chemo, just rads and I recently started taking Arimidex tabs for 5yrs, now on day 11 of tabs.
I had my WLE and SNB on 12th May and I have just got the app for my rads settup next Tuesday, then I am hoping to start the rads the week after next, fingers crossed ! By then it will be 12 weeks since my op and I think that seems a very long time to have waited.
I hope you manage to get sorted out quicker than that.

Best Wishes,

our hosp is about 6 weeks after surgery or if you have chemo its 3 weeks after your last chemo.

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your advice. I’ve chased the hospital and it looks like I won’t have to wait so longxx
