How long before your immune system recovers

I finished chemo at the end of March and then finished rads 3 weks ago. How long can I expect it to take for my immune system to starting recovering? In the last week I have had 2 boils in my nose and am now on my 2nd stye. I am sure this is down to the treatment. I know they are only little things but they are very painful, and at the moment I can’t open one of my eyes fully, so it is getting me down.

That sounds really nasty - you poor thing. Sometimes the “little things” can get us down more than the big picture. I don’t know the answer to your question - I asked my onc a similar question about fatigue, and the answer was anytime from now until never! But you can help boost your immune system with diet - maybe that is an avenue to pursue?

Dear cmw, I would suggest taking supplements reccommended by the bristol cancer centre, this is a high dosage of vitamin c, an antioxidnet complex, which includes quercetin, green tumeric and grapeseed extract, a vitamin and mineral supplement and a high concentrate of fish oil. You can buy them on line. I would also suggest a diet of fruit, vegetables, a little organic meat and lots of beans pulses and lentils. No alcohol or any processed foods.
This will give your immune system a really good boost and also help you to recover from all the chemicals and radiation and stress that your body has had to cope with.
Hope this is useful
Best wishes

If you know of a good homeopath near you it might be worth a try. Mine’s got me on all sorts of vitamin & immune-boosting supplements. My surgeon told me that the effects of chemo can take up to a year to clear the system so I’m hoping that popping supplements for the first time in my life is just something I can do to speed it up.

Thanks for the advise. I am trying to improve my diet (though finding it very hard as I am not a vegetable fan). I will look into te supplements. I may ask BCN for a referal to the Bristol Homeopathy hospital. I also start Herceptin on Wednesday so I will ask then.
