How long between finishing chemo and starting herceptin?

Hi, I’ve had two out of sixof my courses of chemo and will have herceptin for a year afterwards. My consultant said I would have a short break between one ending and the next starting but didn’t say how long that would be. Is this normal and does anyone know what kind if break I might be looking at? I’m hoping that I might get chance to take my children to Disney land during this break.

I had my last chemo September 14, then had four weeks of rads mid Oct - mid Nov, and started herceptin the end of November.

hi mum of 3, how is your wee boy doing, really hope you all get to Disneyland, we took our kids when they were 5 and 3 and it was truly magical, I still get goosebumps when I think about it. We are hoping to go this year and they are now 14 and 16, so fingers crossed

love

Hi mumof3

I started my herceptin with my 4th lot of chemotherapy and continued for a year. People’s treatment plan seems to vary and I don’t think there is a set rule about timing although it shouldn’t be a long wait after you finish chemo.

Good luck with it all.

Thanks ladies.

Carol - my son is doing well, he had his last chemo at beginning of December, two weeks before I started mine! He is having a MRI n seeing his consultant on Thursday and hopefully we’ll get a date then for when he will get his central line out. I gotta say it all seems to have come to an end very quickly. Now it’s just watch n wait n fingers crossed it’s gone for good. He started full days at a new school after the Xmas holidays and seems tobe enjoying it so far,we’re just trying to get things as close to normal as possible for him n the girls now but obviously it’s not easy with me on treatment now. X

great news about your son, I honestly dont know how you have coped, I always said I would rather have the cancer than any of my kids but you have had to deal with both, you are amazing, wont be long until your treatment is done too

take care, sending you a hug

Hi Mumof3

Obviously everyone’s treatment is different. I finished chemo and had a 3 week break before starting rads, then a 4 week break before Herceptin - the oncologist said that was the longest he would leave it before starting treatment.

I’m sure if you explained about wanting to go away they would be flexible.

I haven’t seen any of your other posts but after reading Carol’s reply realise that you have had such a lot to cope with and worry for your son and then to be diagnosed with BC yourself - how very unfair life can be. I hope that you both continue to do well with your treatment.

it seems different for everyone, I started my herceptin with cycle 7 of the chemo and will have it for a year (I had 8 cycles of chemo). You sound one strong lady and such a lot to cope with. I’m sure they will work round your holiday plans … x

Hi

I am due to start Herceptin soon which I will have for a year. Does anyone know if after a year you go onto anything else. e.g. tablets. I feel whilst I am having Herceptin it is hopefully keeping any nasties at bay but what happens after that? I know that I should not be thinking along the lines of it coming back but unfortunatly thats all I seem to be thinking about at the moment.
