Hi,
Just wondering how many days/weeks people waited for biopsy results when they found out they had BC please?
Hi @newhere30 - I was told I’d have my results appointment 2 weeks after my mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. After hearing nothing after nearly 2 weeks I called the breast clinic and they said they hadn’t discussed me in the MDT meeting yet, and my results appointment would be the following week. So 3 weeks- which I believe is pretty standard I’m afraid… (this was in 2023)
Keeping everything crossed it’s good news for you. Sending hugs xx
Hi, I only waited 8 days. I had the biopsy on the Tuesday. Before I left, they gave me an appointment for the following Wednesday. That was 2023.
Wishing you well xx
Thank you, ive seen a couple of people say that the clinic have phoned to tell them its just a fibroadenoma and not to worry they will be intouch if there is follow up. Also seen alot of people waiting a long time because of MDTs and getting their BC diagnosis. So the longer the wait goes on the less positive i feel!
Which is odd, because i live by no news being good news haha!
And thankyou xx
Thankyou, it seems to differ alot doesnt it! Wishing you well also and hopefully will hear from them soon xxx
I went to the breast clinic, had the mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies x2. The surgeon said there and then its cancer. I said maybe the biopsies will show it isn’t and he replied, in a kind way - well if that’s the case we need to do them again as we’ve missed it, and its definitely cancer. He was right
Hi
I had my recall for biopsies on a Thursday and was given an appointment for the afternoon of the following Wednesday as they had mdt in the morning that day before I left the hospital.
Seems everywhere seems to work differently
Xx
Sounds like a longer wait isn’t necessarily normal - so in that case I wouldn’t read anything into how long before you get your results. Stick with no news is good news- don’t worry until there’s something to worry about!
Take care xxx
I had my recall on the Monday where during the US the Consultant Radiologist said nothing was looking concerning but only a biopsy would confirm for sure. Results Appointment was given for 7 days later, they rang that morning saying they were doing more tests (I had a wobble hearing that).
9 days after biopsies I had my face to face. Where I was diagnosed with DCIS.
I guess we’re in the holiday period and I think there’s a pathology shortage.
I didnt think about it being holiday period you are so so right! Thank you that has settled me a little xxx
There’s about a four week delay on pathology results at my trust at the moment, so a long wait isn’t necessarily due to bad news.
Hi there, its such agony waiting isnt it, and I made up loads of reasons inmy head about why I hadn’t heard any thing . As pople have said the system and the time waited varies from hospital to hospital. Where I am its totally fine to ring the breast care nurses and say you are worried that you havent heard yet and when will it be. My experience having had BC twice is that the waiting is one of the hardest bits. Be kind to yourself and all best wishes.
Thank you Margie, i phoned the BC nurse today and she said MDT is on Monday so they should have phoned be my Wednesday next week. I feel better now x
Less than 2 days, California, US at large HMO.
Around 3 week’s i waited . X
It seems to be the norm doesnt it in the UK. Xx
I guess it really varies. I was told to wait 10-14 days and when they called me only 5 days later, I got cold chills immediately as I knew I’d been put on a ‘rush results’ list for a reason. This was a positive in my case; the single tumour they found was 1.9cm at that point, and was already 2.5cm a month later when they removed it, so I’m really glad I didn’t have to wait longer for anything. They’d have done my surgery earlier, but I was on an immune suppressant for RA and had to be off it for at least 24 days prior to surgery.
Its good they were so quick for you! They had just had an MDT meeting the morning i got biopsies and he said there wasnt another for 2 weeks (which is tomorrow) and that my results would be discussed there so i was prepared for the wait. I was just hoping they may phone anyway haha xxx
A very long 26 days (NorthEast England). I rang repeatedly after two weeks, as that was what I was advised was the expected timeframe and just kept being told the results weren’t back. I knew when I got a call asking me to attend clinic the next day it could only be bad news, yet they still refused to tell me anything over the phone.
Unfortunately it was breast cancer. Currently waiting again for lumpectomy and radiotherapy. Hormone positive so also had to stop HRT immediately too. Hoping your wait ends soon and that it’s a good outcome.
