I am hoping for reassurance! Following a lumpectomy (July)and radio treatment (November)in 2010 everything seemed to be returning to normal but a few months ago I started to get pain around the outside of my breast which now feels like it is floating on a hard raft (if that makes any sense!). I have one particular spot which feels bruised to the touch on my ribs and I can’t bear for my breast to be touched.
I have mentioned it to my consultant but he says its all ok and to my own GP who said I have to talk to the consultant! As my sisters cancer has recently returned I am now having kittens that mine has spread too. Please can anyone tell me if they were still experiencing soreness and pain 10 months post-op after a lumpectomy as it just seems a long time to me.
I had a lumpectomy over 2 years ago (I had another about 7 months ago). I felt occasional twinges for considerably more than a year after the first one and was told that these were probably due to healing within that breast. Is your pain occasional or continuous?
Hi DD just this very afternoon I rang the BCC help line as I was becoming more and more concerned that the breast pain/ twinges/ shooting sensations I have was going on for longer than I expected.I had first WLE and ANC a year ago next week and 2nd WLE 13 months ago (late June). After those 2 surgeries I was OK and the pain kicked in later during and after rads really. I have seen surgeon ( early Jan) and Onc ( late Jan) and mammo and u/s and their consultations all OK.Help line said it was still early days for me.I agree, after the time when every thing seemed to be returning to normal I had not anticipated this. I understand that this is nerve pain and can take a while to settle down. Not easy though is it? And esp as your sister has had a reoccurence must be even more worrying. Hang on in there Hugs J xx
Hi everyone- I am a year since finishing rads following WLE,full ancillary clearance and chemo. I too found that boob felt better after surgery but I got quite a lot of pain during the first 10 days of each chemo. Expected discomfort after rads but it has actually got much worse since then. Was seeing lymphedema nurse who assures me it is all part of the healing process but agree that did not expect this.
However DD I think you should still see your GP for reassurance because I think it is easy to accept things as normal so that we do not seem like hypochondriacs! I have found this last 10 months very difficult not to worry about aches, pains and general “strange feelings” but after seeing GP a couple of times feel a little easier.
Hope you get it sorted soon. Marli
