hi ladies,i am waiting for an appointment to have a needle biopsy test on two lumps in my breast i went thinking there was one which i had found but was told after ultrasound that there are two any way im babbling now just wondered how long it took for results of needle biopsy?anyone? thank you xx
I think it might depend upon your area but it shouldn’t be any more than a week, though sometimes HER2 results may take longer. If you want to know as soon as possible you might be able to ask the bcn to telephone you with the results as soon as they come in.
thank you for your reply.just want the biopsy and to know result asap its the not knowing thats doing my head in
im sure its the same for everyone the waiting is soooo hard x
Hi bbt,
I had appt with consultant, he thought something was strange looked under ultrasound straight away, then sent me down for a mammogram and later that day did a core biopsy - none of which I was expecting, but glad they got on with it so quick given the outcome. They had the results 2 days later, discussed my case and told me the next day the results - that was mid-March.
I didn’t get my HER2 results until I saw my oncologist post two ops later mid-May - they do extensive testing for that one.
Everyone on here will tell you that the waiting is definately the worst period through all of this, and it’s natural for your mind to do sommersaults and go into overdrive until you have all of the info and a plan in place, it does become a little easier to deal with then, if you have something to deal with.
Try to relax and in the meantime, you’ll get plenty of support from the lovely ladies on here who know exactly where your head is now, it’s the pits. Let us know how you get on.
I wish you the best of luck for the biopsy and the results and if you feel the need to dip back in here, there isn’t such a thing as a silly question here that you can ask - there is a wealth of knowledgeable and experienced ladies here.

thank you so much bev xx
Hi bbt,
I think it will depend on your hospital,if its a one stop clinc you will get your results the same day if not like others have said it may be a week or so.
I went to a one stop clinc, and was given a 4hr appointment which included Mammos/US/FNAs/and Core biopsies and then was told to wait in the waiting room for 45mins after which i was seen by my consultant and BCN and then told my results.
I was glad to get my results quickly, but on the other hand everything happened very quickly and so was a bit of a shock as i didnt have time to take everything in or prepare myself.
The waiting is horrendous so i realy do feel for you,but like others have said maybe if you have a word with your BCN she maybe able to arrange to ring you when your results are back, though i expect you may still have to wait for an appointment to see the consultant unless you are happy to get the results over the phone.
Try and keep yourself busy,(easier said than done i know) but also try to remember that 9 out of 10 lumps found are benign .
Thinking of you, and will be keeping everything crossed for good results.
Best Wishes

Hi bbt,
Im so very sorry to hear about your mum ,my heart realy gos out to you loseing your mum at such a young age to this awfull desease so i can understand how very worrying all this must be for you.
I just wanted to say that i know the worrying must be so much worse for you haveing gone to the clinic knowing you had one lump and now a second lump has been picked up on US too ,but please dont think that this is always a bad sign or always means its more likely to be something sinister as this happened to me too.
Like you i also went to the clinc knowing i had one lump but after haveing Mammos and US it was found i actualy had 4 lumps, unfortunaeatly the lump that i knew about was BC but after haveing many FNAs and Core Biopsies on the other 3 , 2 were Fibroadenomas and 1 was a cyst which were all benign.
I know this wont help to stop you worrying as its impossible not to worry when you find yourself in this situation, but hope it helps a bit in knowing that you can have mutiple lumps and they dont always mean bad news.
I realy hope you dont have to join us here in the club that nobody wants to belong ,but if you do please take heart that everyone here knows what your going through and will be here to help and support you through it.
Please keep coming on here for some help and support and please do let us know how you get on with everything.
Realy hope you are able to get some answers soon.
Take care
Hugs to you

I had to wait 1 week for the biopsy results.
I had to wait 3 weeks (?!!! Shocking) for the results of the WLE tumour they removed and the SNLB to get a full prognosis - this wait was particulary horrendous because I was so scared it’d spread and we didn’t know if it had or not, that wait was hell. I spent the time preparing myself and all paperwork like a will, the mortgage, benefits, getting organised, I’d already been told that whatever the outcome I’d have to have Chemo and RT.
