Hi there,
I have just started taking Tamoxifen 5 days ago. So far I haven’t had any side effects. I just wondered how long it took before other peoples had kicked in? I’m only 26 and was told the younger you are the worse the side effects will be as younger people have higher levels of oestrogen naturally so I am expecting to feel something but so far so good. Am I counting my chickens too early?!
Hi Bubblie
Can’t be much help as I’m only a week in to tamoxifen. Feel like I’m having side effects, little bit of nausea and certainly hot flushes seem more frequent now! I’m a little older than you at 39 and my periods stopped about half way through chemo.
Doing rads at the moment too so maybe that’s not helping. Apart from that I feel fine.
Hope you continue to do well on tamoxifen and, oh, just 26, far too young to be having to deal with this hun.

I was wondering the same thing. I am on day 4 and so far so good. Just had a bit more indigestion and heartburn but I can cope with that.

Hi
I was 34 when i started taking tamoxifen just over 2 years ago.
It took 3 months before i noticed any side effects and all i have had is just a few mild flushes each day. My bcn said it takes 3 months to fully get into your system.
Good luck
ive been on tamox about 7 weeks now. Im 43. Im already having ‘tropical moments’ (hot flushes), night sweats, bloating, weight gain etc .
Mine starts after a few weeks of Tamox. It’s not terrible - quite doable.

I have just finished five and a half years of Tamoxifen and had no side effects so you may be lucky. Every person reacts differently.
Hi, I started with hot flushes almost immediately but had accapuncture in our local Holistic Centre and it worked wonders - I was quite sceptical initially. 2 years down the line I am still having them and they are getting worse so maybe I need a top up on the accapuncture.
Actually you do get used to them and they can be quite useful in the winter months.
it took six weeks with me. ie when I saw the oncologist at the end of my radiotherapy I had already had a suspected clot and I was having severe muscle pain and cramp. The hot flushes etc were not a major problem and kicked in later.

Hi Ladies
My hot flushes kicked in at about day 10 and I have been on it for 55 days now. Some nights I get more flushes then other nights but they seem to be calming down now as well (I take my Tamox in the evening). Certainly no where near as bad as I thought they would be. Weight has remained stable since chemo and Radiotherapy (which I commenced 4 days after starting the Tamoxifen doesn’t seem to have had any effects either (apart from a slightly sore boob and a bit of numbness). Altogether the worries I had about Tamoxifen and its side effects have proved quite minimal but I recognise that it is early days. Will be getting my eyes checked though as per another thread on here just to be safe.
Good luck ladies and hoping you all stay well.

PS - just had an after thought - I did have a course of Reflexology during Radiotherapy (my cancer unit offers this service) and as this coincided with starting the Tamoxifen I’m not sure if this treatment may have also been beneficial in ‘taming’ the hot flushes - just thought it might be worth a mention if anyone feels it may be of benefit to them - I would certainly recommend Reflexology to anyone undergoing cancer treatment - it really helps calm the mind and body and after chemo our bodies deserve a bit of pampering:)
Hi everyone
I’m with you on the hot flushes and night sweats. Been on Tamoxifen for a couple of months. My GP prescribed me Clonidine for the sweats and it does help a lot.
