Hi, I’m 4 week (all but one day!) post 6/6 cycle of FEC X 3 and T X 3. I cold capped and thankful it’s worked for me! I’ve lost about 60% of hair.
But now I’m getting phased back to work before radiotherapy starts and fretting about the state of my hair!! I don’t want to wear my wig and going to face up to the grey! But it’s so messy and thin! The back is short and sides about ear length from my short bob. I’ve got appointment to see my hairdresser tomorrow… Hoping to get a dry cut/trim to tidy it up. When can I wash mire than once a week? And when can I have it washed and coloured at salon? Does anyone know?!? I was told 6 months before colour and use Nioxin??? ?
It’s a natural hair colour without the chemicals. Even mentions that it’s sutable for people post chemo and includes a list of ingrediants if you want to run it by your oncologist.
Hi Tandy I started washing mine more frequently as soon as shedding stopped, which was a week or two after last chemo. I didn’t brave a haircut until 3 months after & got someone to come to my house, as was a bit worried I would burst into tears when they cut off my long hair. I hate the new grey short granny look, just not me at all & so aging, but got used to it within a day or two. Frankly no one else could care less about what your hair looks like, just you. The problem with longer hair is that the 40% (well done on keeping that by the way) you lost will grow through shorter than the rest & at some point you need to equalise with the rest of the hair. Mine is sitting down nicely with the rest of the hair, but I gather this is unusual & it normally sticks through it. I am having highlights in 3 weeks which will be 4 1/2 months post. According to Jasmin at cancer hair care highlights can be done earlier because dye doesn’t go on your scalp. Thanks for the dye link. My hairdresser has suggested Matrix products to me. xx
I had mine cut and coloured about 6 weeks post chemo (at cancerhaircare Stevenage).
I’ve always had straight fine hair which is s pain to style, always had it one length as layers made it look even finer. However when the new growth came through it looked great and I embraced my natural layers which I’ve kept ever since - bit of mousse and scrunch dry is so much easier than blow drying, straightening etc!
Hi Tandy if you feel your hair need tidying up,go for it. My hairdresser was very good with me as she knew what I had been through! I went to the chemist and purchased a natural colour that the pharmacist recommended because I couldn’t stand the grey granny look!? This was 4 months down the line as I lost all my hair and had to wait for it to grow again. It resembled poodle hair to start with and became very curly! I am glad to say that after about 3 visits to the hairdressers it has settled down and now nearly 2 years on my hair loss is a thing of the past! Good luck!
I’m popping into the hairdresser today to see what she thinks she can do. My sideburns are starting to get a little unruly which I could not imagine ever saying a few months ago. :smileyhappy: I finished chemo on 29th January. I actually really quite like the way it’s coming through at the moment although realise that could change when it gets longer - I have curly hair anyway so it could be uber-curly after all this. Can’t wait to get rid of the grey although have decided to leave it a bit longer to give hair best chance of being in good condition when I dye it. Anyway, lots of the youngsters these days dye it grey so I’m bang on trend for once.
Rosie do you remember the name of the stuff the pharmacist recommended please? My hairdresser offered Matrix, but it sounds just like stand stuff with PPD in. I have looked at water colour by Daniel Field, Herbatint & I’m dithering between them all. Thanks. Good luck with the haircut Peggy. Doesn’t take long without the blow dry! xx
You are so right Bibi. Quickest hair cut ever and barely anything on the floor but feels like a milestone and I walked back home without any head wear. And my lovely hairdresser would not accept any payment, not even a tip. xx
I finished 7 cycles of Fec-T on the 18th January and coloured my hair 4 weeks ago . I used Loreal Prodigy with no ammonia . My hair was totally Grey/white and covered wonderfully. It has stayed very soft and in really good condition .
