Hi
I went in at 7:30am and was home at 8:30pm the same day for a full mastectomy and node clearance this is the norm in the hospital I was under
Everyone in my family was shocked that it was day surgery initially including me but all you do after surgery is rest and thats a lot easier at home and reduces the risk of infection. I had hardly any pain until I developed a seroma around 3 weeks later so I would have been taking up a bed for no reason
Hope your surgery goes well

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. I went in at 7.30am, had my op at 10.30am and was going home at 4.30pm, I was only delayed because my blood pressure dropped after the surgery, but that is something which has happened to me before and I warned them about it just in case.

Hi Chloe
I hade WLE and sentinel node removal and it would have been a day case for me too, but I went down late afternoon and blood pressure was a bit low afterwards, and as i live alone they slung me out the next morning bright and early. Hope yours goes well. X
Thanks all, I am surprised at such a short stay!..
Found out today I need a mastectomy but I forgot to ask how long I would be off work. Any ideas?
Good luck Chloe x
I had mx 2 weeks ago. Was supposed to be day case, op was in afternoon. Had bad reaction to blue dye for sentinel node biopsy so had to stay overnight but went home at lunchtime next day. My GP gave me a sick/fit note for 4 weeks to cover mx recovery then I need chemo so it will be reviewed. Work not expecting me back until after chemo so I don’t pick up coughs and colds.
