How many expansions?
How many expansions? Hi. I had my mastectomy at the end of January, immediate reconstruction with a Becker implant. I have been expanded about 5 times now, with about 50ml added each time. All going well, and the hospital is excellent, but they are reluctant to give me a rough idea of how many more expansions I may need. I know it depends on how my muscle is stretching, my pain tolerance, etc, etc, but I just want a rough idea. I know they over-expand (so it will end up looking more natural), but don’t know how much, so can’t really make an educated guess myself on how much further I’ve got to go. I need to get to a C cup, I’d say I’m about a B cup now…a very perky one at that!
Just wondering about others experiences of how long this took, how many mililetres, etc…
Thank you!
Hi natalie, I must say Im quite impressed with your expansion rate.
I had mastectomy in November with becker implant and apparently had immediate expansion of 75ml at the outset and have had two since one in december which was 70ml and one in January which was 60ml.
Like you I am unclear as to what size I am actually going to end up and it was left to me a bit whether I had another expansion, but if was getting very tight and the disc is in my midriff and gets very uncomfortable from time to time. The boob is also very high up now, much more and I could rest my chin on it. I definately have one going south and one going north.
My surgeon didn’t want to put the permanent implant in before July and has made my next appointment to see him in June, and as it seemed like a long time to wait I decided to leave mine as it is and not have anymore expansions. He thinks I should achieve a b cup but seems a bit unclear about this.
Hope this helps a bit.

Hi I had a B cup before. Had first mastectomy last year. They put 100mls in at the time of the op, then put another 100mls in 2 weeks later then every fortnight had another 100mls until I got 700mls in total. It is a lot larger than I was before but they do have to over inflate so when they put the silicone one in it sort of sits in loose skin allowing a slight droop to make it look more natural. Had 2nd Preventative Mastectomy On 14th of Feb again the same thing 100mls at the same time as op and have had 3 x 100mls since totaling 400mls up to now. You do not notice much at first but does seem to go up all at once. I am told once inflated you have to wait about 2 months before having the silicone implants put in.

expansions I had a total of 6, so your probably not too far off.
All the best

you guys sound like the lucky ones!! I had my mastectomy in October 2006 - with the saline implant - pending a silcon replacement. I have only had two expansions six weeks apart - and the surgeon reckons he can’t make it any bigger (I was was a B cup prior to this performance)… One boob now sits higher than the other - and I can’t have my replacement done for 4 - 6 months due to waiting lists!!
Mind you - I suppose this is all a small price to pay - I would just as soon go flat chested as long as I can be clear of this wretched disease.
Happy easter…
Hey, I had my mastectomy 11/06. starting 12/14/06 ,I had weekly expansions x 10 weeks adding to 460cc. The farther along you get, the more uncomfortable it becomes, but you are really in control of how much at each expansion. I just had the exchange to a 350cc silicone implant. Hang in there, I am pleased with my end result.
Un even boobs Gilly,
Don’t worry about one boob sitting higher than the other. That could well be due to other factors such as swelling. When my surgery was completed I had one higher, the other looked as if it had a step in it but 3 months on and they are symetrical and fab!
(A friend of mine who had implants for enhancement reasons also was uneven for the first 6 months.)
All the best
