hi, I am following a link posted by someone who has an underactive thyroid and wondered if there was a link between that and cancer. Of course everyone who answered that topic had an underactive thyroid because the topic interested them. (thats one of my problems too)
so I would be interested how many people on this site have a normal thyroid function–that will get it into better perspective for me.
hi OAL,I have had an under active for 16 years now,I started 35 years ago with an over active one but it gradually became under active. Its an interesting thought about the link .

I also had an ovractive thyroid 8 years ago which went underactive 2 years ago and I’m on 150mcg of thyroxine per day.

hello
as far as I’m aware my thyroid is normal and always had been and I first had bc 14 years ago. Just thought another perspective is useful - although, this is such a multivariate illness that nothing would surprise me!

Hello
I have not seen the thread on thryoid.
I had a goiter on my thryoid in March 2009 and had a partial removal and cancer was found in June 2010. I am not on any medication and it is not over/under active but maybe this is the reason for my cancer.

My thyroid function tests have always come back as normal but scans pre chemo showed “a nodular goitre”. The Oncs have asked for my GP to arrange an ultrasound of my thyroid to determine what the nodules are- probably cysts- and further blood tests. I have an appointment with my GP on Thursday. The Onc is convinced it is not cancer but will be happy to see me if necessary.
i will bump the other thyroid post
I developed a mild goitre around 14 years ago. I picked up on it beacause I could only see one of the two bones at the front of my neck.
The strange thing is that about 15 months ago it semmed to disappear and I could see the two bones again. Ten months later I had BC diagnosed, maybe just coincidence but it has been on my mind since diagnosis.

I’ve got two nodules on my thyroid, one quite large and visible if you know it’s there. I had biopsies around 2 years ago, and was told there was a 2% chance of a rare cancer but that could only be found by removing the thyroid. I decided to leave it. My thyroid function was normal then though, don’t know about now. Has anyone done any online research on this? Might be interesting!

Hi
As far as I’m aware my thyroid is normal.
This is interesting - I discovered in April that my thyroid was very underactive (I don’t know if it had been regularly checked before then but it was picked up in my routine checks last time round). I wondered if chemo had affected it’s function as I know there can be a relationship between immune system and thyroid function, but who knows…
I would love to say that my thyroid is underactive and thus blame my being overweight on this. Alas though as far as I am aware my thyroid is okay (so I must just be big boned!!)

I was diagnosed with an Underactive Thyroid almost 30 years ago. I have taken 150mcg Thyroxine for most of the time with only changing when I was pregnant. Since my Chemo, Surgery and Radio my dose has changed to 125mcg.for no apparent other reason.
Normal (as far as I’m aware)
