Hi there,
My Mum has had a mastectomy of the left breast and then a further operation to remove the lymph nodes on that side.
Can anyone tell me how soon after surgery her chemo will start?
Many thanks

They gave me 6 weeks from the mastectomy to recover before starting chemo. I actually delayed it by another 2 weeks so the first one wasnt in half term and the oncologist was fine with that.
Good luck and best wishes to your mother.
Thanks nem! I will pass the info on. Mum had her last op 5 weeks ago, but hasn’t heard anything from the hospital regarding her chemo yet. I think she was in a panic that they had forgotten her. LOL
Loads of love

Hi Lisa
I was given an appointment with the oncologist when I went for my check up after surgery.Perhaps you or your mum should give the hospital a call to set one up if she has already been back to see the consultant.
The sooner they start the sooner they finish!
Good luck
Andi
Hi lisa,I agree with andifloss ring the hospital or your mum’s breast care nurse.I hadn’t heard anything for 4 weeks after surgery so I phoned my breast care nurse, she said that she would look into it for me.This was on the Monday morning I got a phone call in the afternoon from the oncologists secretary and had an oppointment with oncologist on the Wednesday had a muga scan on the Friday bloods taken the following Monday then chemo on the Wednesday.Dont know if this is normaly how things are done or if I got lost in the system but it seemed very quick.
Best wihes mellx
Thank you so much for your responses. I will get my mum to give the hospital a ring

Lisa
P.S. This site has been so re-assuring for both my mum and me. Mum doesn’t have the courage to come on here herself xxxx
