I’m due to meet my oncology doc in around 2 weeks haven’t got app yet but I had my post surgery Results on Wed, I’m just curious how long you wait to start the chemo you have to be post surgery for around 4 weeks I think also daft question how many a month do you normally have xxx I’m at Freeman hospital Newcastle BTW xx
Hi Mishy, I started off at Freeman, but then transferred to Cramlington out post. I had my wounds checked and given the all clear after a month, otherwise chemo will stop them healing. There were quite a few tests to be done before the oncology dept took me on. Following these I then needed minor surgery for a venous line, then started chemo. It was about four weeks from my last RVI visit, but I insisted I had the venous line first as my veins are rubbish, this delayed the start and I was very unpopular with the bed manager. Targets you know! There are NICE guidelines for all of this, and I was outside them. My treatment is EC-T x 6. I have chemo every 21 days. So, six treatments in five months, one months rest to recover, then onto rads. I’m one week on from session 2. To be honest the Freeman is extremely busy, bit like a production line with am and pm sessions. However there are always Oncos there if there is an issue, and Maggies and Macmillan are situated nearby. Timings depend on your treatment. What have you been told so far re treatment type? X
I know I can’t have hormone treatment as I am triple negative I am now post surgery two weeks my BC surgeon says I will receive an app with onc in next 2 weeks and definitely chemo approx 5 6 month then 3 weeks rad so it’s just a waiting game I have heard they are really busy there but I thought RVI was too!! You don’t Realise how many people are affected by BC till you are there yourself x
