How soon can you fly after Rads?

I am having my Rad treatment during March and we would like to go on a 5 day break in April to get some sun on our backs and I was just wondering if anyone knew if there were any restrictions on flying after rads, or if you should wait a certain length of time after the treatment has finished. Has anyone flown shortly after treatment??

Thanks, Dena xx

Hiya,

I’ve not heard of any reason why you can’t fly after rads but my oncologist was quite adamant that I should stay out of the sun for a few months, and either cover up or use sun block on the “cooked” area for the rest of my life! Your skin will be very sensitive and will burn easily if you go in the sun. Maybe you should go to Scotland or Norway instead!

PS I’d give anything to be able to lie in the sun, I’ve just finished rads. My skin is very red, sore and itchy!

I went on a long haul flight one week after my rads finished. Oncologist ok’d it. Flight had been booked before I was diagnosed with bc. Flight was ok but felt very weak when I arrived but was only visiting inlaws so could chill out in a airconditioned room for the first week I was there. Dont think I could have be able to tolerate sunbathing though.

hi. I flew 4 days after my radiotherapy finished. Only a short European flight mind you - 2 hours, but no ill-effects either anticipated or felt by me (other than my awful fear of flying which is as bad as it has always been unfortunately).

Have you also had chemo - as I thought you were meant to stay out of the sun for quite a long while after chemo?

i have had chemo too, but only want to go somewhere like Majorca for a few days, no question about sunbathing or anything, just looking for brighter warmer days to warm my badly battered soul…

Thanks for the replies so far ladies!

Hi, i also flew out to Turkey 3 days after finished rads, onc said a break would do me the world of good so went with his blessing. had to keep covered up ( top half ) but got nice tanned legs. take care.

Hi ladies I see your all talking about keeping out of the sun, i live in southern spain, starting chemo then rads after, thats going to be fun! I will be the only whitie here , ha ha,

Hi all I finished rads in august and flew to Amsterdam four days later. I found no problem with flight but was surprised at how tired and achey I wasduring my three day stay. If you are going away try to relax and do as little as possible. I think a city break was a little too soon. take care kittyx

Hi Jellybean

I flew loads during my rads. I live on an Island and had to fly to England every Monday morning and home on Friday evening, every week for 6 weeks. Flying is no problem at all in terms of rads.

Hope you have a super time in Majorca. Beautiful Island.
