how to choose a hospital/consultant for a reconstruction?

I wondered if anyone has any advice for me on this? Did you stay with your local hospital or get recomendations for a consultant?
I’ve just met with my local consultant and he has said he can refer me if I want to, as different hospitals/consultants do different ops. I’ve been told I can probably have a shoulder or one of the stomach recons but I’m strugglling to make a decision. It seems like there is a risk of complications after surgery with all of them and it sounds like the likelihood of this may also be partly down to the skill of the surgeon?? I’m also worried that a referral might delay things. I’m based in the north-west so the hospitals mentioned so far are Whiston in Liverpool, Manchester Christies, Lancaster.

Where abouts in the North West are you?
I am in Cheshire and under a fantastic Ps at the North Staffs hospital,which is also a teaching hospital in Stoke on Trent.
He does mainly ld flaps I think, but Wythenshawe in Manchester do other types such as Tram I am sure.

Glad to hear you’ve found one that’s ok.
I’m in Lancashire, so Chesire is a distance to travel. I’m thinking of exploring this area 1st but open to suggestions further away if needed.
