Hi I’ve been on tamoxifen for a month and think I have developed thrush. I phoned my surgery to make sure it’s ok to use canesten because on box under directions for use it says directions for use for ages 16 to 60 years. Does that mean at 75 I can’t use it.
What did your surgery say?

They haven’t replied I bought some canesten but it say from age 16 -60. So does that mean I’m to old to use it
Can you ask a pharmacist at your local Boots or wherever? Are you sure it’s thrush and not vaginal dryness or a touch of vaginal atrophy? When I started Letrozole, at just turned 67, I got some unpleasantness too and automatically bought and used some Canesten. It didn’t do any good as the issue was severe dryness and I use Hyalofemme now when I need it. I did read after I’d used it the bit about the age range but it was too late. I don’t think it did any harm. If you can’t get answers from your GP, I’d try the pharmacy and/or our lovely nurses.
Hi Vicky. As I understand it, it’s not that you can’t use it or take the oral capsule, more that in older people the thrush can indicate diabetes. I have taken the oral capsule twice since being deemed too old for the pharmacist to let me buy it. The GP prescribed it for me each time and I had no issues taking it. I just explained the issue to my GP. All the best. x
I spoke to ladies older than 60 and they say it’s on the shelf in Boots and they won’t give it to you if you’re over 60. They advise you to see your GP who may prescribe with them checking.
I also read it can affect your kidneys.
I would call your GP again.
Hello Vicky
This product isn’t licensed for people outside of the ages of 16-60, but can be prescribed if needed. I suggest speaking to your gp or nurse at your gp surgery for their advice.
Best wishes
