Human Papilloma Virus & BC: Vaccination?
Human Papilloma Virus & BC: Vaccination? Hello
Has anyone out there had a HPV in their breast prior to developing bc? This is what happened to me, I had bleeding from my nipple and had what I was told was a benign HPV wart removed from the milk duct. 4-6 years later I developed bc in the same area of the same breast at the earlyish age of 40. Ironically, after the HPV I asked my GP at the time whether this would put me at greater risk of bc and was told it wouldn’t.
Now we have a vaccine for HPV as it also causes cervical cancer and it is deemed suitable for young girls. Apparently gay men are also asking for and getting it and some doctors believe that its benefits may be more extensive and that it may protect he sexually active against penile & anal cancer BBC article here:

Yes, there are approx 100 types of HPV and the vaccine, Gardasil, only protects against four but is there anyone else in my situation out there considering this?

interesting theory… Hi Clariana
I had thought of this one. I haven’t heard of HPV in breast ducts but I did have a CIN 2 smear in 1996, caused by HPV, had to have colposcopy etc (yuk). I have since wondered that as we know certain strains of HPV can cause cervical cancers, could it too possibly trigger a breast cancer?? does anyone have anymore thoughts /information?

Thanks Clariana Yes, interesting. I see the research was done in 2004, small sample of women. Hope someone else does a follow up on this.Do you know if you produce antibodies following HPV infection -though I suspect if you do it will only protect you against that particular strain?

This is the text of an interesting article expanding on this topic.
very interesting I have often wondered whether I acquired breast cancer through exposure to an Epstein Barr type virus as I seem very susceptible to them, I’ve had glandular fever in a severe form and also shingles
I got the shingles roughly ten years before I found my tumour and they reckon it takes about ten years for it to become big enough to feel dependent on the grade
