Hello irenko

Thank you for posting.

There is much we don’t know about complementary therapies, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy. There is a lack of evidence specific to breast cancer to support its use and safety during treatment. Much of the evidence for hyperbaric oxygen is in relation to radiotherapy side effects.

It’s not possible for us to say how long you need to wait before starting hyperbaric oxygen therapy and having had cancer is not listed as a contraindication for having this therapy. You may want to talk to your breast care nurse or treatment team about this.

You may find it helpful to look at this section of the forum to hear about others’ experiences of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. You can also contact Penny Brohn, a cancer wellbeing charity, who may be able to provide some more information.

You may be interested in our Moving Forward resources that are for people who have had a diagnosis of primary breast cancer and have come to the end of their main hospital treatment within the last 2 years. They include our Moving Forward booklet and Moving Forward courses.

Through supportive, open conversations in a safe, confidential space, you’ll connect with people who understand. You’ll also find the tools you need to feel more empowered, confident and in control to begin to move forward with your life.

You can attend Moving Forward either at our face-to-face course or take part by joining online.
