hypercalcaemia

I cannot find any threads on this site about hypercalcaemia even though its quite common in women with breast cancer.
Mine was found through having the routine blood tests that went with diagnosis.
I have had WLE and SNB with no nodes involved in January. Unfortunately mine is grade 3 triple negative so waiting for chemo to start.
My raised calcium levels have been diagnosed as hyperparathyroidism but am still panicing that maybe it means I’ve got bone mets.

Is there anyone out there with this diagnosis? Triple neg and hypercalcaemia seems a lonely place to be at the moment.

wriggly

My Mum had hyper-parathyroidism, not linked to bc at the time, and she had an op to remove part of her parathyroid gland.

hi welcome to my world! i can assure you in amongst the blood tests they will be checking to look for cancer markers, and if they have said its hyperparathyroidism its because you are excreting too much something or other controlled by the parathyroid gland! I know exactly how you feel! have you been referred to an endocrinologist?

Yes, I’ve been referred but am waiting to hear about appointment.

Ann Marie,
Do you have symptoms with it? What treatment do you have if any? Sorry to be nosy but i’m so pleased someone has replied!!

you might find more info if you like up hyperparathyroidism, my main sympton is tiredness although this could be related to chemo! i have found this condition a very lonely and frightening one as alot of gps havent even heard of it. I have had to have surgery for it. and am now undergoing further tests, have you spoken to your oncologist about it? ask me anything you want cos i know i felt when i first discovered it and speaking to some one in the same boat would have made all the difference

Hi Ann Marie,
I’m sorry you feel tired, hasn’t the surgery cured the hypercalcaemia? Did you have the surgery before the chemo. I’ve been told I’ve got to wait until after chemo and rads. But still haven’t been seen by endocronology. Oncologist didn’t seem that fussed about it.
I’ve felt tired for years but assumed everone feels like me and its just work, motherhood and life dragging me down!

well i am like you have always felt tired, and i just thought it was me being “lazy” I was diagnosed in July 07, had chemo, then Rads then had a full hysterectomy in July 08, in october 08 i went to the docs and said that i didnt feel right they did a load of blood tests that came back looking like i was in real trouble, but repeat bllod tests showed i had raised calcium and then it was took from there, have you had Kidney stones?
