I found a lump on my left breast

I’m 21 years old, two days ago I have found a lump on my left breast. I do not have inverted nipples or any discharge or blood. At first it was kinda tender but it’s starting to get a little more painful. My weight flaxtuates but I’m very skinny. My breast are not big at all so I assumed they were growing, I’m kinda weird because they both do not have the same lump. When I touch the lump it moves and it’s not painful, just a bit sore and tender. It’s noy rough kinda smooth. I haven’t noticed this before but my breast did start growing when I was 20 and it was very very painful. I’ve read online it could be a cyst but I’m panicking, the possibility of breast cancer is freaking me out. I cannot bring myself round to telling anyone or even booking a doctors appointment. Does anyone have any clue or advice ? I’m loosing my mind.

Hi Claire,
You are quite right, it most likely is a cyst, it is very common.
Do go & book a Drs appointment to get it checked out, otherwise, you will only remain anxious about it & googling will not give you the answer & only make your anxiety worse.
Bc in someone your age is extremely rare & the least likely reason for the lump, but you do need to have your mind put at rest on this.

Hello Ladies,

I’ve had my appointment at the Breast Clinic this morning. They said I have a benign lump, or fibroadenoma (I think they’re the same thing). They said it’s less than likely it’s cancerous considering my age, not having breast cancer in my family history and my lifestyle.

I haven’t decided on whether I should have a biopsy or having the lump completely removed. I’ve got an appointment for the 8th January, I don’t know what I should do. The ultrasound showed my lump to be bigger than the “norm” (which is 3 millimetres) it was 3.8 millimetres.

I’ve been offered either biopsy or to have the lump completely removed. The nurse said if I remove it, there’s a high chance it could come back again and again. My mum advised me against the biopsy because my sister had one on her leg previously and it didn’t go to plan. The biopsy caused the lump to become heavily infected and cause further complications.

I’m honestly stuck on what to do next. I wouldn’t mind having it removed but, the problem is I don’t want to have invasive surgery or being put under general anaesthetics.

Any advice or previous experience would be very much appreciated. I’m panicking so much now but I guess it’s out of my control.

Thank you so much for the support ladies xxx

Hi Girls,

Hi Moijan - Are you well? Haven’t seen you for a while, but was only thinking of you the other day, and here you are. That sounds amazing what you had done, have never heard of it.

Hi Claire - I wouldn’t let your sisters leg put you off having a breast biopsy. They’re wanting to make sure of what it is, before considering ANY surgical removal of the whole lump. I’m presuming if the biopsy results come back clear/benign, it’s up to you whether to have it removed or not, dependent on what it is. Breast biopsies are either by a needle, or by a core biopsy, which is using a small hand held machine with a trigger that shoots a small rod with a grasper on the end, that basically bites a tiny piece of the tissue or lump off. Sounds worse than it is, but is quick and just a bit uncomfortable, nothing major honest.

Once it’s been examined, they and you will then have a much better idea as to what is then required - nothing or something. Hope that’s of some help.

What’s your problem with anaesthetic?? Can understand surgery, but if it’s needed, it’s a different matter.

Lotsa love Delly xxxx

Hi girls,

Sorry for not responding, my anxiety is so high and I don’t know what to do. I’m starting to get some pain underneath my armpits and I’m getting weird.

I’m going to book a GP appointment for tomorrow, I think I should just go for the biopsy. I need to rule out the worst possible outcome.

I’ll keep you updated about any changes thanks again ladies xxx

Hey Delly,

I’m going to go for the biopsy, my lump is still the same and it’s still painless. I’m started to get a bit of pain under my armpits on both sides. I’m going to go for the biopsy, you’re right it’s best to know before anything else.

I assumed you’re unconious when put under general anaesthetics, I don’t like the ideas of the possibility of not waking up.

Thanks for your concern xxxxx

Hi again, Claire Rose

Don’t know if I’ve caught you in time, but you should have been able to contact the breast clinic straight away, following your previous appointment, rather than go back to your Gp, to arrange a biopsy appointment directly with them . Isn’t me darlin, who’s right saying have a biopsy, but thanks.  I was just pointing out it’s them, the breast team, who feel it’s right. But YEY, glad you’ve chosen to have it looked into further.

With ref to anaesthetic, don’t even think about it right now. An unnecessary concern until you’ve had your biopsies and results from.

Am guessing you’ve never had an anaesthetic, or op?? If not, don’t be at all concerned. I’d describe it as the BEST sleep I’ve ever had, for unfortunate reasons, and no probs waking up!! That’s from someone who’s had two breast ops and 3 knee ops. Anaesthetics these days are a far cry from years ago, few side effects from, and I’ve always found the anaesthetist doctors and nurses “particularly” caring in the hospital team. Have often had me laughing before I “go under” into deep sleep!! So please do not worry yourself in that respect. Take it a step at a time flower. It may not get to that point. Hopefully not

Please try not to worry yourself at this stage. You need to find out if it’s “something or nothing” first. Hopefully it’s nothing.

Will you please let us know where you’re up to with biopsies/examinations and how you’re doing with it all.

Much love to you and everyone else, Dellywellydingdong xxxx

Hi Clair.rose,

How are you and where are you up to?? Would you let us know when you have a few minutes and can. We’re all eager to know, well I definitely am.
