Hello, about two weeks ago, one day before my period, I was applying breast firming cream, when my middle finger passed slightly through the areola next to the nipple, I felt something ,return to that place with a slight push, I feel something more ball-like maybe Blueberry size when I pressed it is not much different from the rest of the tissue, but when I squeeze it I can hold the ball the size of a blueberry between my index finger and thumb and that make me nervous .My period is over but this has remained. In a lying position it still feels normal, maybe that’s why I haven’t noticed it until now, because during self-examination with light pressing movements it doesn’t make difference much, now because I know it can make a the difference, from the other breast.
Two years ago, I was worried about my breasts again and did a 3D mammogram + diagnostic ultrasound of both breasts, nipple area and armpits, everything was normal, they told me to check again after 5 years. Back then I was 35 now soon I will be 37 years old , That’s why I didn’t go for a breast examination last year, which I regret now. I have an appointment with a gynecologist next month, I don’t know how I’ll survive until then. Could it be normal, just a palpable gland? Or is it certainly a new formation that appeared after the detailed examination.
During a self-exam, I accidentally discovered a small lump in my left breast, close to the areola. It can be felt only with a pinching movement between my thumb and index finger. It is not noticeable during a standard breast exam using light pressing or circular motions. The lump can be felt both when standing and lying down, it is not painful, does not move with the skin, and there are no visible changes in the nipple or skin. It has not changed in size or shape since I first noticed it 13 days ago. I do not feel anything similar in the right breast. Is it possible for this two years to be something really bad . I forgot to write that I don’t have any pain , no changes in the breast looks the same to me, no discharge, just the lump .
Hi @ann777 Welcome to the forum, the nurses are available between 9-1 on a Saturday and 9-4 Monday to Friday. They don’t always reply to the messages same day so I would suggest a phone call if you want to answer before Monday. 0808 800 6000
However, if it was me I would contact my GP for an appointment and see what they say, there is a protocol for 2 week referral in the UK for anyone over 30 that presents with a lump. Most lumps aren’t anything to worry about but until it’s investigated you won’t know.
Take care ![]()
I’m wondering if you are in America as you have an appointment with your gynaecologist over it, or are you seeing them for something else? Breast matters are a totally different discipline in the uk.
If you are in the uk, then GP with possible 2 week referal to local breast clinic is the usual path to investigate a lump. Any lump that doesnt change with your cycle should be investigated
Hi ann777
Thank you for posting about the breast lump that you have noticed near your nipple. It is understandable that you are worried, but breast changes can happen for many reasons. They may be due to injury, hormonal changes as part of your monthly cycle (if you are still having periods) or benign conditions (not cancer). You’ll probably find your breasts change quite a bit throughout your life.
As you have noticed this new lump, we would suggest you make an appointment with your GP to be assessed. As @naughty_boob says they can review you and talk to you about whether a referral to the breast clinic for further investigations is required.
Breast cancer is uncommon in women in their 20s and 30s so the change you have noticed is more likely to be because of one of the reasons mentioned above rather than cancer.
As @entropy says practices in other countries may differ to the UK, but if you are overseas and notice a breast change it is always suggested that you see your doctor for further assessment.
