I had a Masectmy.

Hi, Im Carol, i had a Masectomy in October, and im on Letrozole Tabs.  I have fluid swelling under my arm and down my side, which is also numb,a really strange feeling. I was told months ago by nurse it isnt lymphoedema, but im not sure. Anyone out there with same problem.

Hi Carol I have problems in this area too.  I was told like you not lymphodema but it is fluid which your body is trying to move on.  I was told to do exercises like swimming and yoga or simply stretching and it does work.  I cannot wear a bra because of the problem but usually wear a slip.  I had a wide local excision and scar is on cusp of left breast.  If I do wear a bra the swelling is worse and can be sore.  The numb feeling in your arm is due to nerve endings being damaged during surgery.  Exercise is best and one I find helpful is crossing my arms over my front to stretch the muscles in my back.  Apparently there are a lot of lymph nodes in this area and the muscle when stretch encourgages the movement of the lymph fluid.  Hope this helps.

Hi

I’ve attached a link to our booklet “Reducing the risk of lymphodoema” which I thought might be helpful:
