I have found a lump in my neck on the side where I had surgery 19 years ago

My neck has seemed a bit stiff recently and i found a small lump on my neck on the left side below my ear, I now think it’s an insect bite. I seem to be going into panic mode with lots of hysterical anxiety based on fear of cancer illness and hospitals. So basically I am not in my right mind. Nothing new there. I also feel under pressure as I have sole responsibility for looking after the finance and property of my mum aged 95 who lives miles away from me on her own with carers going in and out every day. she’s doing well but she has heart problems, her legs are bad. She’s very happy though and lives one day at a time. I wish I could be the same

Hi Seagulls

I’m so sorry you’re still plagued by this pernicious disease. I can see that it’s left you with some level of health anxiety, which is hard to live with. You’re right though to be ever-vigilant, not expecting the cancer to come back but just accepting it’s a remote possibility.

Bearing that in mind, if your spot doesn’t go away in the expected amount of time, do get it checked. I say this because I thought I had a couple of small acne spots and was stuck with them. They weren’t acne, after all (: You don’t have to go to your GP. Your breast care nurse service is there for you even if your treatment was 19 years ago, so it’s worth starting with them.

Please don’t panic over my suggestion. It’s being practical, knowing what we know of breast cancer. There could be loads of reasons for a bite/spot but, if it doesn’t go away, do get it checked. Just in case.

Take care and always reach out when things get on top of you,
