I’ve been on denosumab, fulvestrant and ribociclib for just over 18 months. Last year I noticed my hair was coming out quite a bit and when I mentioned this I was told it wasn’t related to my medication (not according to the patient information leaflet that I read).
My hair has continued to shed and what is left doesn’t grow as I’ve not had a hair cut for 6 months. For the first time in my life I have no fringe as I don’t have enough hair to have one and I’ve been wearing a topper since January.
I’ve had a further conversation with my oncologist who is adamant I’ve got hair thining and not hair loss. I’m now getting to the stage where I won’t be able to wear my topper any more as I’m beginning to look like friar tuck - for those of you old enough to know what I’m talking about lol
As my hair is now worse than it was when I had my head shaved during chemo I just want to sit and cry. I think I have reached the stage again where I’m going to have to have my head shaved but I worry that I won’t have hair again.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I’m so sorry but yeah as I read things on-line I think it’s common. The lack of estrogen can cause hair thinning. I think probably most of us notice it if we’re on endocrine therapy although some have worse problems with it than others. Anyway I’ve done research and there are things that might help it. The cheapest are biotin, rosemary oil and something akin to rogain. But there are also hair specialist clinics who might be able to do something for a bigger price tag. For me I chose to do a different hair style. I do have a fringe since it does a lot to make my hair look thick on top and it’s a thick fringe that starts from almost the back of my head. I also baby my hair quite a bit by combing it very carefully and not using heat products nor dye.
Thanks
I just wish theyd be more honest with us about potential side effects. I’m at the hairdressers tomorrow so I’ll have a good chat about it. They are one of the NHS recommended ones and saw me during my chemo days. My unfortunately don’t have enough hair for a fringe. I’ll see what tomorrow brings
