I like my new hair!

I thought I would start an upbeat post and state that I like my new hair.

I finished chemo on 31st August but now I have between an inch and two inches all over my head. It’s a mix of very dark through to white giving an overall look of steel grey. I now funk up the top with gel and I am getting so many positive comments about how good it looks.

I used to have it in a shoulder length bob and dyed gold/coppery red. I had no idea what the real colour was - hadn’t seen that for 30+ years. So now it is very different but I have got out of the having it coloured every 5-6 weeks.

My old hairdresser is no longer at my salon. I also go there for facials etc. and the therapist I see said to me a couple weeks ago that one of the other stylist had asked her to ask me if he could do my hair in future. He was so excited at the way it was growing. I saw him last week for the first cut - just a trim at the back hairline that was getting out of control. He said to me he wanted to get his hands on it before I could be persuaded to go back to the bob. He said the way it looks now I look much younger -and he isn’t the only one who said that (despite the colour). Several people at work have said the same.

So for those of you who are still in chemo, maybe you’ll have an outcome like me. There can be (a kind of) silver lining - or maybe silver hair

Good luck

Hi Sharon

I had almost waist length auburn wavy hair, and have had long hair for the past 20+years, so you can imagine I was gutted to lose it.

However, it is almost a year since I finished chemo, and now I have a lovely head of thick curls, and although I hated it short at first, it looks really good now its longer, and is even curlier than before, I just have to wash and leave it, and at last I actually love it.

I am growing it again, but in the meantime, I am enjoying the new me!

Like you, I get loads of compliments, some from total strangers, and they have made my day many times.

So although it has been hard, at last I feel good about how I look.

Best wishes to you all still in your hair journeys.

Hey all

Just thought I would join in this discussion. I too like my new hair. I only finished chemo beginning of November but have quite a good covering of dark hair. I always had long hair before but absolutely everyone is saying how I suit my hair short. At the minute its a bit of a Sinead Oconner so I would never leave it this short but am willing now to have a short style as I am quite liking it. Also before it was curly but no signs of curls so far - fingers crossed it will stay straight - altho maybe its too early to tell.

I went back to work last week and am ‘going commando’ on the hat front.

No signs of grey yet either (i am 39)

I have a wedding in 4 weeks so am hoping for a bit more growth for that

Take care all

i like my new hair too!
Its grown back black rather than the mousy brown that it used to be. No sign of curls though (was hoping for curls as hair has always been thin and straight)
People are obsessed with the length of it - i have never had so many men wanting to ruffle my hair as now!. Its a constant topic of conversation every week when i go to my singing rehearsals.
It started off looking a bit loo brush like but i am getting to the stage where i can style it (finished chemo mid sept). I wash it every other day in a tea tree oil shampoo which leaves it silky loking. Also think that using that has encouraged the growth

Just had OH take a picture of the back of my new hair. It has been described as “mink”. it’s just about an inch long, the back is like a catherine wheel swirling round my crown with the top growing into a point it’s brilliant!

Hey… I’m another who likes my new hair… see, there are lots of us out there! I always had straight, shoulder length brown hair (OK, the colour was topped up from a bottle!!), but decided that I don’t want to put any nasty chemicals on my head any more… and now… it’s very short, very grey and curly!! I’m just happy to have hair on my head again and find myself constantly running my fingers through the curls  I finished 6 months of chemo in mid-November and radiotherapy last week (whew!) and only went wigless about a fortnight ago…Quite young for the silvery look at 44 yrs, but so what… The cold head syndrome takes a bit of getting used to, so I have to wear a hat when walking the dog!

Mines has come back silver and everyone loves it. It’s quite curly, but I bought a straightening gel for it and use this when I blow dry. I wash it with shampoo for silver hair and put a finish on it which gives it a pearly sheen. I thought I would hate silver hair as I’m only 46, but as I sometimes wear black framed glasses it looks really quite funky - fab with chunky silver jewellery too!

I had my first cut for 14 months 3 weeks ago, hairdressers would not charge for it as they said they were just pleased I was back and looking well.

Dear All

Thank you so much! It gives me hope. Apart from having this damn problem everything has gone so well. Can’t wait to be back to tell you how good mine is.

You are all great! I want the curly and auburn! Dream on.

Love to all
