I’m a newbie

Hi I’m Jax

I have recently (last week) diagnosed with bc - I have HER+2, ki 20%, RE positive 100% intense +++, RP positive 60% +++. I discovered my lump whilst taking in the fresh morning air (yes I smoke) at 06.00 one morning around 3 weeks ago. The lump is 8mm

My husband, 2 dogs and a cat had just had a stressful move from SW France to Brittany (north France). I was finally thinking we’d got where we wanted to be when I noticed the anomaly in my left breast.

I’m due a PET scan on the 20th this month, followed by axillary sentinel lymph node dissection (ganglion sentinelle) followed by ‘spotting’ under ultrasound. The lumpectomy is the 27th September.

As our french isn’t fluent - I have translated this via an app, so if it doesn’t make sense the translation may not be accurate.

Scary times but pleased to be part of this group. I don’t fully understand my diagnosis but hope I’ve caught it early.

Hi Jax.

You have triple positive breast cancer, I had the same 6mm clear lymph nodes, I had lumpectomy and radiation, no chemo or Herceptin, just hormone tablets, which I couldn’t tolerate, I lasted 10 months, off since January 1st.
Doctor said no benefit for me with Herceptin, it will be interesting to see what treatment you get.
Good luck to you, triple positive is not as bad as some others, go on the internet and read all about it, that’s the only way you learn what’s going on in your body.

Hi Trish

Thank you for your reply

I have been told ‘I’ve caught it early’ so that’s good news.

I have been dipping in and out of the internet and learnt a little so far.

May I ask how the lumpectomy was? Did it hurt? My specialist had given me 10 sessions of physio for post op as seemingly the shoulder can be very painful after.

The hormones (flipping hormones) regarding they prescribed you - what was the reason you struggled with them?

Sorry for so many questions but things are moving at pace from discovering the issue to removal will be around six weeks. Although saying that I note that the countdown days are long.

Luckily I have a couple of friends who have had bc but different forms.

I shall keep you updated and again thank you for your response. Wishing you the very best. Jax

Jax, its also quite a good idea to start doing shoulder exercises before surgery too. University Hospital of the North Midlands Trust (UHNMT) have some pre and post exercise videos on vimeo.com All very simple aimed at getting the best mobility in your shoulders.

Loads of luck with your treatment and with the language.

Thank you sooo much I shall definitely start now. Jax

Hi Jax

The operation was not bad, my boob was swollen for a couple of weeks, no other effects, as far as radiation I did get very itchy and burning, that was my own fault, I didn’t start the aloe Vera soon enough, so the doctor gave me antibiotic cream and that helped.
The hormone was letrozole I had no side effects for about 5 months, then they started,my hands got stiff and sore, and I had awful reflux, then I switched to anastrazole that was worse, two weeks on that then back on letrozole, my hands got really bad, so I stopped.
I read so much about osteoporosis and heart issues for women over 75, with these pills, I decided to take my chances, and go without.
I have high blood pressure and cholesterol, a lot of breast cancer patients die of heart disease, not the BC.
If I was younger I probably would have stayed on it longer.

I wish you all the best,
Trish
