By the way, you start your rads when i have my last one. One day you will be saying that to someone else and then you will be nearly done. Hurray!!! x
Hi there
I was also in tears after my planning session . I had a young lad of about 19 taking my photos . I felt very vulnerable . Glad to hear i wasn`t the only one to feel like that . I start rads on monday , 15 sessions and 4 boosters
Hi all: I started my rads on 5 Jan having completed chemo (epi/cmf) at end of Nov. Said I wouldn’t start until after Christmas, my onc was OK about this - he has learned I am a member of the awkward squad!
Planning was OK but room was cold but when I went for first dose found that the lead radiologist on the team played golf with friend - which helped. I am at University Hospital in Coventry. We don’t have a changing room but just take your bits off in the rad room. The team has about six girls on shifts and two guys, one a young trainee. I am 61 and can’t really care who sees what. All I can say is that if looking at my battered and floppy boob not even suntanned now doesn’t put young James off women for life then nothing will. It is a bit annoying being pushed and pulled about but they just ask me to lie there and they will do the moving - left hand down a bit, etc. I guess like all medical people they have seen everything in all shapes, sizes and colours. But my lot are nice and we do chat a bit you are still on a conveyor belt.
It doesn’t last for ever and hopefully the side effects won’t be too bad. I have no 8 of 15 today so have hit the halfway mark - so far no reaction 'cept a bit itchy. Gather the effects will kick in at the end of this week and then continue for about 2/3 weeks after end - someone said its a bit like a microwave - you keep on cooking.
I’ve been using the aqueous cream that my lot recommend and also using it as a shower gel - leaves your skin shiny and soft. Am getting some Aloe Vera gel as that seems to be good as well.
I think you have to remember that this is, hopefully, keeping you alive and stopping this c**p disease coming back. Just make sure you know what is happening, why, and how it is going to effect you. There is loads of info and support on here. Keep asking questions and getting answer you can understand. Don’t ever think you should just accept everything at face value - it is your body and your future.
Look after yourselves
Julia

Hi all,
I have just finished my 2nd zapping today at University Hospital in Coventry.
I agree with you Julia its cold in that room, I go in L2, but not in tomorrow back on Monday.
Im going to try and work through it if I can but Im a Nursery Nurse at Henley College Nursery and Im finding it hard since going back. Still get tired quite quickly and in waves.
If you go to Lloyds Chemist Julia you can get 99.9% Organic aloe vera gel there, its £4.99.
What time are your appointments at im 4.30 every day straight from work?
Take care all
Sandra
