I was told that I was too old for egg harvest and save, I was only 42!

I was diagnosed with triple negative Breast Cancer on 24th March 2011, aged 42. I asked about my fertility, and egg harvesting and save. To give me the option of having a child following my chemotherapy treatment. I was told that I was too old to apply for this on the NHS, as the cut off was age 40. I am now aged 45 and in a long term relationship.

I really hope that they increase the age for this service, I know it’s too late for me, but hopefully others won’t be so unlucky in the future.

I was diagnosed at 42 and always thought we might have another baby. The whole fertility thing wasn’t even brought up for me. At an appointment before my second round, my onc said my periods may stop and sort of raised her eye-brows and asked did I know what that meant. That was the sum total of my options! Dreadful isn’t it?
