IDC, ILC and DCIS all in one breast

After two biopsies and all the other diagnostic tests my pathology has found all 3 types in my left breast. This is all a year after a clear mammogram. Single mastectomy planned for two weeks time and then not sure what treatment plan. Apparently this is very rare. Anyone had this delightful combination?

Hi @bonnie3

I was found to have invasive lobular cancer plus DCIS and LCIS all in the same breast (right) in 2023. Apparently it is quite common to have a mix - another unexpected thing I have learnt through this jolly journey :face_with_spiral_eyes:.

I also had a single mastectomy, plus lymph node clearance and cancer was found in 1 lymph node of the 12 that were removed. As I’m sure you have read on here, the waiting is the worst. Hopefully, now that you know what you are dealing with, things may feel a little easier although of course, still shocking.

Sending you lots of love and I hope you are doing as ok as possible xx

Thank you Fran for your response. It really was a shock. I am so grateful that you have responded, to know that I am not alone with a crazy diagnosis. I will be glad when the surgery has been done. Sending lots of love back to you and thank you again for responding xxx

I have wide spread dcis and idc also. They didn’t seem too concerned that it was lots of stuff all going off at the same time as I am also having a mastectomy so said they would just remove the lot. Fingers crossed for your surgery. I am booked for the 18th and the waiting is the worst!

Weirdly (or not as I suppose there is a 50/50 chance) mine is also in my left and there is nothing going on with the right side at all! It’s just being a normal boob

Just jumping in on this - have just seen my consultant five weeks after bilateral mastectomy and sentinel lymph nodes.

Before surgery we were looking at 3cm IDC grade two and a small area of DCIS in right breast and what looked like 10mm of up to high grade DCIS in left.

Pathology was no change in right, but the left had 60mm DCIS and two tiny IDCs. Shocked that none of this showed up on four mammograms, two ultrasounds and a stereotactic mammogram, but so so relived noses were clear and now move on to the letrozole.

Good luck to you too @norms80 for the 18th. Although the wait is awful I have found that it has given time for mental acceptance of having the single mastectomy rather than the lumpectomy which was the initial suggestion. Will be thinking of you x

@lynnc123 how are you feeling now five weeks after surgery? Will you be having chemotherapy or radiotherapy?

My nodes were clear and Oncotype low enough to mean chemo no benefit and no radiotherapy so on to five years letrozole and five tamoxifen.
I do feel great and won’t be having reconstruction. I’m still puffy around armpits and the left, where three sentinel nodes were removed, is more numb and I have slight cording there so working on stretching and massage.
But I was back in the gym and running (with physio approval and guidance) from week 2-3 so glad to get back moving again. xx

@lynnc123 so pleased to hear you are doing well and so quickly after surgery. I hope you get the cording sorted out. You have given me some positive hope xx

Hi @bonnie3. I have IDC with dcis and lcis in my left. Most of it has now been removed but there is still an area of IDC and dcis remaining which will go after chemo when i have a masectomy. Ive had 3 surgeries, but they kept finding more and more, hence the need for a masectomy. It was in lymph nodes which is why I also needed chemo. All grade 2 hr+ and her2-. Good luck with it all…sounds like they’ve done a good job of locating it all. Xxx

@bluesatsuma thank you for your reply. You are right, I guess I am lucky they have located everything at the start. I am sorry you have had to go through so many surgeries and still need a mastectomy. My date for surgery keeps changing and is now scheduled for the 16th Sept. When are you having yours? I wish you good luck too and let’s stay in touch on here. Sending love xx

Hi @bonnie3. Good that you have your date and can now get yourself ready. Mine won’t be until after chemo so January I’m expecting. There is a lot of helpful advice on this forum about masectomies which will give you practical and emotional support. I really hope i dont have to wait too long after chemo to get mine done. X
