Hi everyone,

Just been in hospital for a week. God this disease is scary. I have been off sick from work for around 10 weeks. I get full pay for 6 months and half pay for 6 months. With me taking sick pay and I couldn’t have worked as newly diagnosed with SBC if I apply for ill health retirement, would my ill health retirement be affected. Or if I went on to take 6 months half pay would this have a deterimental affect on my ill health pension.

You have been through the mill! I think the best thing you can do is ring the Macmillan helpline and choose the Work option. They are the ones with the expertise and may well support you through your process to get the best outcome for you. Pensions are such difficult issues at the best of times but you mustn’t be short-changed just because you have the appalling misfortune of your diagnosis.
