im abit scared (well alot)

im abit scared (well alot) I wonder if anyone can help me please. I didnt know where else to turn.
I am a mother of 4 and am 26 years old. I recently found a lump on my left breast 2 finger spaces away from my nipple. I went to my doctors today and he has put me through as urgent for breast screening, and I really am worried. The thing is aswell is I also found out I am 8 weeks pregnant. There is a difference with this pregnancy as my breasts have already started growing and are so sore its unreal where as they never have been before.
My doctor knows I am pregnant and I did ask him if thats what my lumps are associated with and he said he doesnt know as there is a cluster of lumps.
Also after reading around sites I noticed that breast cancer has a conection with the armpit and about 2 months ago I had a lump under my armpit which after much fiddling with I managed to pop as though it was a spot. there is nothing there anymore.

I really dont want to sound paranoid but I have no-where to turn and I’m so scared.

Does anyone have any advice? Also will I still be able to have a mammogram as I am pregnant?

thankyou

Hi Lisa Hi Lisa,

really sorry to hear you’re going through a tough time of it at the mo but I’m glad you’ve found this website. The help on here is awewsome and I’ve found it invaluable since I was diagnosed back in March.

May I suggest you ring the helpline this website offers. I have rung them before and they were superb, answering all my questions and giving me loads of help. They will prob be able to tell you for definate if you would be able to have a mammo as you’re pregnant, although I’m sure they would give you one. Perhaps they may give you an U/S instead it they are particularly concerned as the pregnancy is at the early stages. For me, the U/S was far more conclusive than all the mammo’s put together!

I was put through for urgent breast screening by my doc, and although this worried me massively, I was relieved that I was being taken seriously and they were not hanging about. Many ladies on here seem to have to wait ages for tests and follow up appts to get results. That wait is far too long, particularly if the news turns out to be not so good.

Lets hope that the news for you will be better than it was for so many of us on here. I really hope the lumps turn out to be pregnancy related and nothing sinister at all. Please don’t worry too much about the lump under your arm, as if you managed to pop it then I doubt it would’ve been anything dodgy.

I hope your appt comes through v.quickly and the news for you is good. Take care of yourself and be sure to let us know how you get on,

Kelly

Dear Lisa,

Easily said, but try not to worry too much. You should get an appointment at the breast clinic within two weeks, and hopefully your mind will be put at rest.

Re…the armpit lump. This sounds to me as if it was a sebaceous cyst, just a collection of greasy stuff called sebum that sometimes get trapped under the skin, especially in hairy places like armpits. I was plagued with them during my pregnancies!

Wishing you all the luck in the world, and let us know how you get on at the clinic.

Hi There,

I have just recently been referred to a breast clinic and am awaiting my appointment in 12 days - and i know exactly what you are going through.

The doctor told me that during a normal exam they couldnt’ be hundred percent sure if the lump was just a fibroadenoma (which is a benign solid lump of tissue which, although very common in young women, can occur at any age) but she said that it was likely that this was what my lump could be.

A fibroadenoma is normally rubbery in texture and often painless, smooth to the touch and moves easily under the skin – which is why it is often called a breast mouse - and it is not unsual to have more than one.

A small number get bigger and this may be more noticeable during pregnancy and breast feeding as a result of increased sensitivity to the female hormone oestrogen.

As much as we focus on the worse, we have to have some hope that it could just be something like this… What i have just pasted here, is what i read every time i get anxious and into a bit of a tizz…
hope it helps you too

Hi Lisa

just to let you know when I was pregnant I had a large lump on the side of my breast which turned out to be inflamed milk ducts, never went to the breast clinic that time as doctor didnt feel the need as it is quiet normal for changes to take place.

I know how you feel waiting going through this at the moment and have been through it twice before, try not to get too worried, if they choose not to give you a mamo could be down to age as well, I was 30 the first time I went and was told breast tissue can be very dence in young women and mamos arnt as good as an us scan,

Hope everything goes well

take care

monday Hi thankyou everybody for your support.
I have my appointment tomorrow at 3.30. (25th)
The letter from the clinic said I would recieve any results about 2-3 weeks after the app but when I spoke to the clinic (i was impatient at waiting) they told me that as I was going on a monday this was the one stop shop so I would find out the same day.
All I can do is wait and see tomorrow now.
But thankyou all for your support and I will be thinking of you when I’m there xxxxx

GOOD LUCK LISA - please let us know your results.

Good Luck Lisa, will be thinking of you, do let us know the outcome when you have a chance.
