I’m only 17 and i know that its really rare for me to have breast cancer but there is a possibility.
My symptoms are on my left breast. That nipple doesnt stand up properly and on the area next to it, i think maybe its called the areola there are two small lumps, which get mpore pronounced, if my nipple does actually stand out. They hurt if i pinch them, more then any other area, but not when i just run my finger over them.
I also have felt some slight pain and lastly today i just notced that my breast starts off lower then my right one, and it really wasnt like this before.
I’m so scared, and i dont know what to do. I cant call my doctor, im so embarrased, i dont know what to say, let alone to go in and let her examine me. I’m so shy, i cant even tell my mum or anyone, so i’m all alone and im so worried.
Hi Tutorgirl.
I am not sure from your description if these are recent changes you have noticed? A flat or inverted nipple is more likely to be problematic if it has changed from previously. The lumps on the areola sound like little glands. Try not to worry but DO go to your doctor just to be reassured. I know its embarrassing but your GP will have seen loads of breasts and if there is any doubt, he/she will refer you to the experts at the local breast clinic. Its worth being a wee bit embarrassed so that you can be reassured that you are ok.

is there a sexual health clinic you could maybe go to for teenagers? i work as a sexual health nurse and we are used to see parts of the body that would normally be kept private.
it actually sounds like normal changes that happen to your breast through puberty the little glands on your nipple are called montgomery glands and they stand out when your nipple is erect eg when you are cold or sexually aroused… also most women have difference between their breast and they may be a different size… girls bodys continue to grow till around age 20 so you may still get more changes… but the sensible thing is to get it checked if it even just to reassure you that you are normal.
i would definitely make the effort to overcome your fears as you rightly say that BC at 17 is rare but its not unheard of… if it was something more serious the sooner you find out the better treatment work.
i think it would be a good idea to try to speak to your mum too… my 18 year old daughter was complaining of pain in her armpit which can be associated with BC but she told me and i went with her to the doctor who was able to reassure us both.
good luck hunny
be brave and get it checked… let us know how you get on.
