Ive heard that lack of oestrogen weakens immune system. I didnt have chemo but had my ovaries removed in 2009 aged 35 and am on tamoxifen. Would i benefit from the flu jab?
I didn’t have chemotherapy (was on Zoladex and am still on Tamoxifen) but my local surgery were happy to add me to the flu jab list last year - both normal and swine flu. Didn’t ask this year so will be really cross if I get normal flu (apparently the swine flu jab still offers protection). I’d ask if I were you - even before I got breast cancer, my surgery had a policy that old and vulnerable people got jabs first and then everyone else could use up what was left…
…not heard that but will search as am on Tamoxifen. Take Zinc for yr immune system (and echinacea if you’re into herbals). If you beleive in jabs, get the 'flu one - I was also offered a pneumonia one (never heard of that)but I am of an age where it’s cheaper to jab me than nurse me!
I also try and avoid public transport as much as poss - demonstrated y’day when I went on a bus and (despite there being other seats, some fellow sat next to me and coughed, sneezed, blew his nose - shouldn’t have been out. I moved seats. Having had a MX wound infection which meant loadsa antibiotics, don;t need anything else!

Thanks for your replies, gonna ask my gp.
Barbara, my lack of oestrogen comes from having no ovaries. Tamoxifen doesnt stop you producing oestrogen so shouldnt apply to you.
