implant now FINALLY in but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

its given me a “double bubble boob”. I had my ld flap done a year ago, implant was rejected by my body 3 times so left it for a year to settle down. In that time my recon has gone nice and soft like a normal breast and on Friday i had the implant put back in. It seems very high and then there is a ridge where my implant ends and my “normal” soft breast continues. Has anybody else had this? iS my implant likely to drop into the rest of my breast??? I feel really ungrateful because now i finally have the implant but its just not looking RIGHT!!

somebody please give me some reassurance!!!

Hello Deed,

I’m sorry I can’t give you any advice or comment from my own perspective, cos I’ve not had reconstruction, but we were posting at the same time this last year, and I know what huge problems you’ve had.

Firstly, you aren’t ungrateful at all Deed! After all you’ve been through, you’re bound to be keeping a really careful eye on your implant - I’d be just the same!!

As I say, I’ve no personal experience of implants, so can’t reassure you on that score, but I just wanted to say - could you have a lot of swelling at the moment around the area of your “normal” soft breast, and could that be why the implant is sitting so high up? I think I’ve read on other people’s threads that the implant seem to be quite high at first.

I hope others will be along really soon with their words and reassurance for you, so that you’ll not continue to worry about if the implant drops into the rest of your breast. Sorry I can’t help more.

I know it’s the obvious thing to say, but can you phone your bcn? Mind you, I know there’s been times when I’ve just wanted friendly hugs and answers from people on here, rather than the slightly more “official” comments from a bcn. I don’t know if that’s the same for you, but in any case I really hope people are along soon on here for you.

With much love, Deed!

Has your implant been put in under the pectoral muscle? This is generally quite tight and may give you a line across a relatively soft implant. Best thing would be to check with your PS or BCN.

Hi Shelley
I remember us chatting last year, i hope your well? your right, i feel like my breasts have been such a nuisance to the bcn that i dont like to phone them. its only been a couple of days and im prob making a fuss for nothing but after all ive been through with them i would just LOVE to have a breast!
I had an ld flap a year ago so the implant is apparently on my ribs (very sore) but just concerned that i appear to have two boobs in one!
does anybody know if implants are likely to drop?

Hi again Deed,

Yes, I’m keeping well Deed, but am having some counselling at moment - as well as my mx last year, Dad’s had cancer 3 times (2 primaries) in less than 3yrs, so counselling is really helping!

Just wanted to bump this post up for you Deed - take care, and hope you get some more answers from people who’ve had implants.

By the way, would the ladies on the BCC helpline know. Think they’re open till 6pm?

Lots of love,
Shelley xxx

Just to let you know the helpline opening hours are

Monday - Friday 9-5
Saturday - 9-2

Deed, please do give them a call, they will be able to listen to you and help discuss your concerns.

best wishes
Poppy

Hi Deed

I have lots of problems with the LD flap and a series of implants - including the double boob effect. Mine did slip from it’s moorings to rest between my ribs. After revision (again!!!) it was firmly stitched in place and although it is still not a great shape it has lost the too tight bra effect.

Think you should highlight the issue asap - I kept healing between discoveries that it was not right and it does not help to keep being sent back to square 1.

Good luck and wish you well

Hi Deed,

I don’t think you’re being ungrateful at all. I had an LD reconstruction, with implant, in 2008 and am constantly told what a lovely job the surgeon has done - yet my ‘breast’ has felt incredibly hard since it was done and I feel uncomfortable each time I raise any concerns about it.

Am I right in thinking that, up until Friday, your LD muscle made up your reconstruction? If so, do you mind me asking what cup size you were? I’ve just transferred to another hospital and am going to ask that they remove the implant but don’t know whether its possible to have a ‘breast’ from the LD muscle only.

Certainly it seems to me that you need to speak to your consultant again - do you have an appointment to see him/her post surgery already?

Please let us know how you get on.

Naz

Hi Jane and Naz
thank you for your input. I have a follow up appt with my doc on dec 1st but im hoping my implant “slips” before then so that i dont have to go in and moan yet again!!
Naz, im a DD cup in my good side and one cup size smaller in the recon side without the implant. I didnt find it was the size that was so much the issue more the fact that it was a bizarre shape because it just 'hung" there with no volume.

I dont want a perfect boob just something that half resembles a breast!!!

Ah, I see, thanks, Deed an implant then is really necessary if you want it to look breast like.

I hope that it settles and you can move on without the need to discuss it with your consultant - I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Friday is still early days.

Hi Deed

I recall being told off for raising my arms in the days post revision surgery (after originally being told I had to do exercises after the immed recon I assumed same would apply). It seems a bit strange that moving your arms could cause implant slippage but clearly someone had heard of it! Feel sure gravity will cause a bit of a drop but watch out for hardness or feeling it is caught in the ribs.

Good luck all
