Incision looking and feeling worse!

Hello. I had a right side mastectomy for extensive DCIS 6 weeks ago yesterday. I will go to the drop in breast clinic tomorrow (hospital where my surgery took place is wonderful but 2 hours away) but my incision began to bleed after a shower and now is crusty, apologies for not a nice but accurate word. Then all of a sudden, about 4 hours ago, a huge swelling popped up at the beginning of the incision that until now has been nice and flat. It is not hot to the touch but getting bigger all the time and sore! I have been doing lymphatic drainage exercises for the last few days (Qi Gong), which was recommended by the physio I have been seeing for a very “stress induced swollen middle and lower tummy. Perhaps I have actually moved too much fluid around! ??

Hi Olivia,

I hope you’re feeling better today?

Please do give our nurses a call on our free helpline 0808 800 600 as they will be able to advise as to whether this is normal and talk you through whether you should contact your breast care team.

Thank you. Was a large seroma that appeared out of nowhere and a second infection along the incision line! I think now that the 5 days of antibiotics I had at 3 weeks after the Mx did not really cure it….and the kind of shivery exhaustion at the end of the day was not just recover it was that still fighting the infection. I had a 7 inch incision from the initial lumpectomy and that scar was absolutely fine! Sigh!!
