Hi there, I am new to this site. I found a lump about two and a half months ago. Its painful and sensative and my nipple itches and hurts.
I had a mammogram, sonogram and 3 attemps at a biopsy. The mammogram showed nothing. Sonogram revealed the painful lump and quite a few lumps behind my nipple. The consultant decided to take a biospy, she wasn’t happy with the 1st attempt, said she didn’t get enough and the lump kept moving. She still wasn’t happy with the 2nd so went for a third attempt, by than the local anaesthetic had worn off and it hurt like hell (I was nearly on the ceiling.
9/9/09 went to get results after waiting 2 weeks. I was extremely nervous. Consultant hadn’t read my notes properly, he didn’t even know that I had a biopsy done (not a very good start!)
He quickly read my notes and said everything was fine and lump was benign, so I asked what type of lump it was? The consultant said the biospy was inconclusive (quote ‘they didn’t hit the right spot’)and they didn’t knownwhat it is, and suggested it could be fibroadenoma or a Phyllode
How can the consultant be sure its nothing nasty when the biopsy is useless?
I was given three choices, either leave it , or have another Biopsy, or a lumpectomy.
Leaving it aint an option, they don’t know what it is, it hurts more now than it did when I 1st found it and it feels bigger. Having a 2nd biopsy, well after 3 fumbled attempts last time! what happens if 2nd round of result are still inconclusive.
A Lumpectomy scares me but its the only treatment for a phyllode, but a bit drastic if the lump turns out to be a fibroadenoma.
I have chosen to have it removed… have I made the right choice?
If the painful lump is a phyllode, will they test/remove lumps behind nipple?
ekk got so many questions. Sorry post is so long
