Hello all, I’m 13 days post single mastectomy, implant reconstruction and lymph node clearance and I’ve got an infection in my breast - it is red and very sore. The nurses reviewed yesterday and I have been put on antibiotics for 2 weeks which hopefully does the trick. However, the consultant that I saw mentioned if they don’t work I may have to go back to theatre to have the implant and breast area ‘washed out’. Does anyone have any experience of this please and can tell me what it entails and whether they kept their implant afterwards. I feel really rubbish today and thinking about it all and worrying about having to have more surgery, so hoping it settles down and doesn’t come to that. Thank you xx

Hi I had similar unfortunately mine was badly infected had to have implant removed and had surgical debridement
Wasn’t as bad as it sounds , just unfortunate after decided to go flat can change my mind later down the line

I’ve not had an infection, but my wound hasn’t healed after. 14 weeks, so I am having the expander removed in 3 weeks time, and I’ll be going flat. I’ve had 6 weeks of antibiotics in the last 14 weeks, to keep infection at bay.

Thank you both, it’s so good to hear about what others have been through. I think I’ve been lucky and although taking quite a while I think the abx are kicking in and treating the infection - although I’m 3 weeks today and absolutely exhausted, all I’m doing is sleeping! Xx
