Inflammatory Breast Cancer

In addition to a malignant lump in the breast of 3.5cm, and a spread to one sentinel node, I have a pink inflamed area surrounding the nipple, in extent that of a middle-sized orange. This week my breast surgeon will be discussing with other members of the Breast Care team as to the most desireable way forward. Has anyone had any experience of this?

Hi Clarissa,  Sorry you find yourself here.  I had IBC symptoms at diagnosis and had 9/12 lymph nodes affected, in March 2017.  Standard treatment for IBC is chemotherapy before surgery.   Here is my story which you may find some comfort from:  lifeafterlola.com

Waiting for your treatment plan is a very anxious time but it gets easier once its all agreed.  You may want to chat with others in the “going through treatment” thread once you have your treatment plan.  For chemotherapy there is a monthly thread which you can join.  I found this very helpful.  xx

Clarissa, I was diagnosed 15 years ago with IBC (stage 3b). Had chemo, surgery, radiotherapy then an anxious wait, but am well now. I only come back to the site now at anniversaries to let folk know it is survivable, and increasingly so as treatment has advanced so much since I went through this. My heartfelt best wishes to you for the coming days and months.
