Inflammatory reaction ; how long will it last

I had double mastectomy & reconstruction almost 3 weeks ago.  Last weekend I was worried the underneath of each breast wasn’t healing fully, so made an appointment to go back & see my consultant.  Whilst it was only a small area, he put a stitch into each breast to help close the wounds.  A little over 24 hours later, I started to feel unwell.  My left breast, armpit & all surrounding areas were painful & swollen and I have limited movement on that side.  It feels worse than when I first came home.  The consultant says it’s an inflammatory reaction from having the stitches.  Has anyone else experienced this & can anyone tell me how long it could last.?  Thanks xx

Hi Jacqs ,sounds a pretty extreme reaction - has your consultant examined you since they did the stitches ? It might be worth getting a second opinion from Breast nurse /GP ?

Hi Jill. Yes i did get to see the surgeon again & unfortunately it was a bad infection so had to go back into surgery today to have left implant removed. Pretty gutted but I will be able to have it reconstructed after chemo. X

Oh no how miserable for you - hopefully you are feeling a bit better now though ?
