Information shown on CT scan

Hello,
I’ve been wondering if bone mets would always show up on a CT scan? My last scan was for thorax, abdomen and pelvis. I have lung mets but can’t help worrying that the cancer could also be in my bones as I have intermittent pain in my shoulders and arms. I’ve been told this is likely to be a side effect of letrozole and I’ve already been diagnosed with arthritis so I really hope this is the case. I’m a bit worried as I know CT scans focus on organs but would they show bone mets too? Many thanks for any information you can give.

Morning
Yes CT scans do show bone mets and any other arthritis conditions too. They are highlighted on the scans.
Did you have your ct with contrast this highlights even more.
Have you had the results yet from your scan, your message isnt very clear. If you have, and no mention during your results meeting with consultant then i would say no your fine.

Hope this helps to put your mind at ease

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. No bone mets were reported on my previous scan so that’s reassuring:) I was diagnosed de novo in May and it was such a shock I think I’m still worrying about where else it could be without me knowing. That’s really good to hear though and helps put my mind at ease x

Oh and yes I had a ct with contrast…

Hello mumofarchiedog,

Thank you for posting.

It’s understandable that you are worried about the cause of the intermittent pain in your shoulders and arms. As @purplerose said CT scans will show bone metastases and arthritis type changes, so it’s reassuring that your previous scan showed no bone metastases. You may wish to ask your team about a bone scan, if you have not had one.

Many women taking letrozole find they experience aching or pain in the joints and muscles. You may find our information about hormone therapy and joint pain helpful.
