Hi all,
I’m trying to get life insurance! I’m 6 years since dx, no treatment since initial chemo/ surgery/ rads (nothing else as triple neg). The only quote I have managed to get is nearly £300 per month, for the first 5 years, then dropping to £45 p/month for the remander of the 25 years cover. I am 40 and a non smoker, cancer was stage one , grade 3 large tumour but no lymph nodes or anything else.
I want cover as I would like to get a mortgage, and my husband does not earn much so I would like cover for him and my child if that bus comes round the corner!! I’ve been informed by bc consultant that my risks are really very low- less than 2 or 1 %, so has any one else managed to get cover? It can’t be impossible. I’m not on a huge wage so may be that makes it more difficult? I can’t understand it- the lump sum i was after was not a lot.
I’m very lucky that all is well but would like to do the right thing for my family. I’m expecting to pay more- but not that much!!

Hi Sam, did you see an IFA as most will have a connection to the specialist companies. I am very surprised at that loading given you are 6 years in.

Hi,
The loading you will be charged does depend on both stage and grade.
Was it quoted as an amount per £1000 cover? or an extra mortality? or did they just give you the total premium?
There are brokers who specialise in shopping around for you, as each company will set it’s own level of basic and extra premiums. The best ones will phone the insurance companies for an indicative quote before getting you to fill in the forms so that you don’t need to fill in loads of forms. It helps if you have a copy of your exact histology results to answer any questions they have at this stage.
(I have recently been treated for BC, but also work for a Life Insurance Company).
If I can be of any help PM me.

Thanks for your replies and:
-it was with an advisor attached to Lloyds bank who was with the Scottish Widows,
- the only info was for a total sum, on payment of death or terminal illness.
I tried (with Santander) to get cover last year, and was informed I couldn’t get any cover with them.
Can you recommend how to get a IFA? Please pm if more appropiate. I’m really thankful that I can still get advice here- has been years since I’ve been on, but I can’t believe BC is still annoying me!! grrrrrr. (realise in the scheme of things,at least I still am around to get annoyed about it)
Sam
I just wanted to add that for anyone thinking about taking out Life insurance the cost for women will go up in December this year because of an EU ruling that women and men must be charged the same premiums.
