Irritable bowel syndrome/Kidney stones?/Tamoxifen

Hi Lovelies; the last 5 days have been interesting - right sided intermittent shooting pain, lots of flatulence! still got it - it comes and goes but when the pain is there its awful. GP did my bloods all returned normal even urine culture (so not stones) Not sure if this is IBS (never had it before) or something else -(brain going to dark places so am trying to pull it back!). Anyway been referred for urgent abdominal scan by GP so we will wait and see, As I said its intermittent pain not constant rather like a colic pain. Was wondering whether tamoxifen is a culprit? - GP didn’t know. Have left a message with the breast care team just updating them on my saga

Hi there,

Sorry to read you’re having stomach issues. I know it’s so hard not to worry about stuff and keep perspective. I had IBS like symptoms since my BC diagnosis almost 3 years ago. I’ve finished Tamoxifen and now take Letrozole and was still struggling. I can’t help thinking what we’ve been through, the stress may be partly responsible, but even so I decided to try a strong probiotic and see what happened. Taking Symprove had been transformative that’s all I’ll say. There’s a lot about it on social media but it really worked for me in only a few days. You buy a months supply and take it on an empty stomach in the morning. It’s also 50% off atm. Really good.

Good luck and all the best. x

I developed IBS type symptoms from tamoxifen, and ended up having a colonoscopy just to rule anything else out.

My oncologist thinks it’s a result of the sudden drop in eostrogen effecting the gut.

I’ve been on it a year now and it has settled down. But I’m interested in trying Symprove too!

I found the first year on tamoxifen was a bit of a rollercoaster of side effects but nothing too bad xx

That’s really interesting and helpful thank you to you both x
