Is anyone else considering the DESTINY BREAST 05 trial? (HER2+ non-metastatic)

Hi all,

As the title says really! I’m in the early stages of considering this trial and wondered if there’s anyone else in my position please? The trial is for HER2+ early cancers that have already been treated with chemo and surgery. The chemo for 14 cycles will be either Kadcyla (the current standard treatment) or Enhertu (currently only used for metastatic cancer).

Deciding whether to go for a trial or not is a bit of a minefield!!!

TIA.

Hi Doris

The trial is for people at high risk of recurrence/metastasis. Speaking as someone who barely got a break between being declared cured and the first signs of metastatic triple negative bc, I’d say go for it. You might be someone who could put it all behind you but high risk is exactly what it suggests and you can’t be sure you won’t be affected. It’s a huge shadow to live under. Enhertu is getting good results at Stage 4. I certainly wouldn’t pass up the opportunity with the understanding I have now. However, after I’d been through chemo and radiotherapy, I’m not sure I’d have had the energy!! You’re right - it’s a tough call.

I hope you get your thoughts clarified and are accepted for the trial!

Hi, I’m on this trial, only started it a few weeks back. Im in the Enhertu arm and have found it to be very tolerable so far. My only side effect has been fatigue. I too am high risk, and wanted to do all I could at this stage with no regrets. I hope you make the right decision for you. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Hello. I have just seen this thread. What qualifies a person as high risk? I was HER2 positive, node 0, clear margins, no LVI, stage 1 after neo=adjuvant chemo and grade 2.
I had some residual active cancer cells after surgery within the tumour that was removed, so I could not carry on with Phesgo. I was given the choice between Kadcyla and Herceptin, and went for the latter as chemo had minimum effect on the tumour. Just second guessing my choice now that I read this thread

Hi Doris,
Just wondering what you decided to do in the end. I am triple positive and had chemo with Phesgo injections, and a lumpectomy. Will be having radiotherapy in the next few weeks. My nodes were clear and the tumour which had been shrunk by the chemo, was completely removed, clear margins. Saw my Oncologist this afternoon and he has offered me a switch to Kadcyla from the Phesgo, as they have started giving it to people with early stage bc with no spread and the tumour being fully removed. Too early to know the efficacy of this though as there haven’t been any long term studies. Totally baffled by this choice. On the one hand I don’t want to through anything that is like chemo, even slightly as it was so gruelling, and it will lengthen my treatment as I was already nearly halfway through the Phesgo injections, but then again I want to do everything I can to cut down the possibility of a recurrence. I also will be starting Letrozole, Zoledronic Acid and Goserelin. I’m already exhausted and worn out with the treatment so far.
Any help or advice would be greatly received.xx
