Is bone scan normal pre chemo?

My mind is working overtime. My oncologist has sent me for a full bone scan before chemo starts. I’m trying not to think this is because he thinks it’s spread. Is this a normal step before someone starts chemo?

Hello Mumsy,

Sorry to read you are feeling so anxious at the moment, only natural after what you are going through, I can say why you have been sent for scan, I think if this was me I would call my breast cancer nurse, she will have all your records and results to hand, I feel sure she will put your mind at rest.

Please post back to let us know, how you are getting on, wishing you well with your treatment. We are always here for you.

With the biggest hugs Tili :rainbow::pray::rainbow:

No, this is procedure, you got to get everything checked out before treatment starts, I remember getting this done & the waiting back for the result was horrendous, mines came back fine & it’s been now 13yrs since I had all treatment & im doing good. It’s such a shame a lot of us don’t comment afterwards but there are lots of us out there that are doing fine. You will get there, take it easy, you are stronger than you think.x

Oh bless you everything is so out of your control and feels scary and so please call your team or the nurses on here tomorrow ( monday)

There are lots of reasons for scans and for helping your team understand your treatment plan so its probably nothing to worry about but thats not easy so call and ask,/ talk and get answers to help you move on

Good luck x

Hi,
Not to worry,
Yes, they like to know all that before you go on Hormone Therapy!

Hi don’t be anxious it’s a positive action.
I had a full bone scan before any treatment as I was told they would be keeping an eye on my bones, after chemo/radiotherapy and being put on Letrozole for 10 years, as these all impact the bones and so they need a start position to monitor. I have completed treatment and am having bone infusions every 6 months for the first 3 years and calcium and vitamin D tablets daily. So I am sure it will all be in your best interest, good luck with it all
xx

I didn’t get a bone scan before chemo. They only did a pelvic ct scan because my blood results for liver were high. It’s routine at dome hospitals but not all. Depends on budgets. I think it’s goid that they’re bring thorough. X
