Hi all
Ive developed a painful hip and thigh ,which has been niggling for 10 weeks or so now. My doc referred me to a physio which i have attened twice over the past 3 weeks. I keep telling her the pain feels like its coming from the top of my leg to the side. She says what i feel is muscular.
Ive done the exercises for 3weeks now and some days the pain is worse, other times not so. Walking and laying in bed at night seem to be the worse times. I also have developed a niggle on my breastbone which ive told no one about yet.
Has anyone been told the pains are muscular only to discover bone mets.
Do i go back to doc or do i continue with physio
Thanks
jackie
Hi Jackie,
I do have extensive bone mets and my advice would be to contact your oncology unit if you are still ‘on their books’ or go to your GP and ask to be referred back so that you can have bone scans etc. to rule out the possibility of bone mets before you have any more treatment. It seems to me that 10 weeks is to long to leave this unchecked. A lot of the pain I have had recently has been concentrated in my hip and thigh and sometimes feels very muscular. (I have had bone mets for 6 years now). Recent scans and xrays show that I also have degenerative disease in that area so never really know which to blame. But anyone with a history of bc and getting pain as you have for 10 weeks should be checked.

Hi jackie
Maybe you could do both - you can go back to the doctor and tell them what you have said here…it needs to be fully checked out because it is not getting better and it is clearly worrying you. I don’t know how the doctor can tell you its muscular without doing a bone scan, especially when you say its been going for 10 weeks or so, its also a little worrying that you say its worse at night,
my own bone mets - i had no idea I even had them, so I can’t say that I had that experience, but there have been plenty of women here who have been falsely reassured by their doctors, and also plenty of women who had aches and pains that needed to be checked out and turned out to be OK or something completely unrelated to cancer.
good luck
Cathy
Hi
I was dx with boney mets 2 days after having my baby.
From about 5 months pregnant, I suffered severe pain in my rib - which seemed to be muscular - as if it was going in to spasm - it totally knocked me for 6. I went to GPs and was prescribed co-codamol and told that it would possibly take 6-8 weeks to correct itself. In the meantime, I started getting pain down my leg (same side as rib) - this was like sciatica. I muddled on just thinking it was to do with the baby pressing on nerves and things. My rib pain had just cleared and then started again - the pain was just as bad as it was before. A visit to a different GP - again, suggested that I’d pulled a muscle - same treatment.
I talked hubby into buying a new super-duper bed just in case this was the problem - I had had problems getting comfortable at night.
Towards the end of my pregnancy, I could hardly walk - reliant on crutches and in the very last stages, a wheelchair.
It was at one of my last ante-natal appointments, that they sent me to the maternity physiotherapist. She ruled out the common condition of SPD but was baffled as to what it was. My belly was rather large (my baby was born 11lb 2 1/2 oz!!!) - physio gave me one of the belts to help with my posture.
I can remember that whilst lying down, she manipulated my leg and hip - the air was blue!!! The pain was soooooooooo intense!!!
I was getting increasingly worried about how on earth I was going to give birth - as they dont like the traditional positions nowadays but there was no way I could crouch down or anything. At my very last ante-natal appointment, the gynae-consultant realised that I couldnt weight-bear on my left leg - she called the Breast Consultant over and I was sent off for x-rays. I was oblivious to secondaries. MRI/CT/Bone scans followed.
After scaring the living daylights out of you, I must apologise but my advice would be to skip the GP and go straight back to Breast Care or Oncology Team - they are the experts and will arrange the appropriate scans to rule anything naughty out.
Good Luck - please let us know how you get on
Love Anne xx
