About 2 weeks ago my left nipple became very sore and inflamed and discharge came out. I went to the gp who put me on antibiotics for an infection. I was sent to the breast clinic the next day who did an ultrasound to check for an abcess and found nothing.
I have finished the antibiotics but have had spontaneous discharge twice more from the nipple.
The nippple has been itchy on and off for a few weeks now.
I’ve been advised to go back to the gp so will do that next week.
I’m now worried something sinister is going on. If I get referred back to the breast clinic I’ve heard they might do a punch biopsy of the nipple. Will it hurt and will they use local anesthetic?
Hi penguin , I would defiantly go back to gp or breast clinic . Punch biopsy or any breast biopsy isn’t that painful and worth getting done for piece of mind , I had fine needle for my nipple discharge a little bruising but nothing to painful
Good luck
Yep. Always local anesthetic for biopsy. Please get it double checked and be certain. Unfortunately breast cancer is not limited by age.
Fingers crossed for you that it’s nothing sinister.
But definitely be sure xxx
So sorry to read, you are concerned and uncomfortable. However I agree with the other comments you have had please return to your GP. you need to get some answers and get sorted out with what’s going on. I know you’re concerned about the treatment however I think you will be able to cope with it.
Wishing you well going forward for an excellent outcome, health and happiness ahead.
I’ll be going back to the gp on Monday, I’ve also noticed the nipple is raised and red all the time, its usually flat and pale. I cant find anything online about nipples doing this, its usually going from raised to inverted. Has anyone experienced what I’m experiencing?
I went to the NHS gp today and they basically said wait and see. I’m not happy with that so have used my private insurance and am seeing a breast specialist on Wednesday night. I just want my mind put at rest as this is not normal for me
I had my appointment tonight, they did another scan and found an area with fluid in it. They think its residual from an infection. They doubt there is anything sinister going on. The discharge is the fluid making its way out and the itchyness is caused by the discharge.
If things havent settled in a few months or I get a scaley rash I will be seen again.
So pleased they don’t think anything sinister is going on.
